Brooks Koepka has joked his relationship with Northern Irish caddie Ricky Elliott has proven such a success because he "does not understand him half the time".

Koepka, 33, has worked alongside the man from Portrush ever since the 2013 US PGA.

Elliott has therefore been on the bag of Koepka for all five of his major victories.

The LIV Golf star was pressed by the media ahead of this week's Ryder Cup in Rome as to why his relationship with Elliott has stood the test of time for over 10 years now.

Koepka and caddie Elliott have teamed up together to win nine tournaments on the PGA Tour, including two wins on the LIV Golf League.

The former World No.1 joined LIV Golf League in a huge money deal last season.

While the American was quick to joke about his looper's Northern Irish tones, he went on to explain how Elliott is one of his best friends.

Koepka, who won his fifth major at the US PGA in May this season, said:

"Yeah, I think we've been so successful because I don't understand him half the time. That's probably why we work so well together.
"He's a great dude. He was a groomsman in my wedding. He's one of my best friends. We hang out on the golf course, off the golf course. He'll sometimes even pop down to him or I'll pop up to him in Orlando and just kind of spend a weekend up there hanging with him. It doesn't always need to be golf. We're very close, and I think that's translated to success on the golf course.
"I think the ideal caddie is just knowing what your player is going to do before they even do it. He can sense if I'm tense, if I'm a little too relaxed, if I'm pissed off, if I'm kind of lackadaisical. He can sense that and kind of get the ball rolling and snap me back into it."
