Bryson DeChambeau offered unique DP World Tour lifeline after LIV Golf collapse

The two-time US Open champion has been handed an exclusive route back to the DP World Tour in 2027, but he's got a week to decide.

Bryson DeChambeau has been handed a golden ticket onto the DP World Tour for the 2027 season – should he wish to take it.

With LIV Golf now heading for liquidation, the American has reportedly been offered an exclusive route onto the DP World Tour for next season, making him the only non-exempt former LIV player with an automatic exemption to join the circuit.

According to Telegraph Sport, DeChambeau's 2024 US Open triumph at Pinehurst has opened the door, but the 33-year-old must reportedly decide by November 14 whether to accept full playing privileges on the DPWT.

It is a remarkable twist following LIV's collapse. DeChambeau now has a route back into traditional Tour life, but could instead pursue a future built around YouTube, the four majors, Ryder Cup and select appearances.

DeChambeau's LIV future ends in uncertainty

The two-time major champion was considered a crucial figure in LIV Golf's proposed relaunch after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) withdrew its financial backing this season.

BC Partners Credit had been prepared to provide up to $300 million to support LIV 2.0, but the investment depended on securing commitments from a sufficient number of leading players.

DeChambeau reportedly met with the prospective investors but is understood to have chosen not to sign up to the new project.

His decision, alongside the refusal of other stars such as Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and Sergio Garcia, helped destroy the league's hopes of a successful relaunch.

LIV Golf confirmed on November 5 that it was abandoning LIV 2.0 and moving towards an orderly wind-down.

DeChambeau could now use the DP World Tour as a potential route back to the PGA Tour in 2028.

A top-10 finish on the Race to Dubai money list could provide an opportunity to earn a PGA Tour card for 12 months time, subject to eligibility requirements.

An immediate return to the PGA Tour is considered unlikely. Jon Rahm has suggested he expects to serve a one-year suspension before being welcomed back, potentially setting a precedent for DeChambeau.

Could DeChambeau choose YouTube Golf instead?

There is another intriguing possibility, and that's playing YouTube Golf around the majors and the Ryder Cup.

His enormous online following gives him a platform few professionals can rival, and let's face it, DeChambeau has got plenty in the bank right now.

Rather than commit to a full DP World Tour schedule, DeChambeau could potentially focus on his content creation while playing select tournaments on the European Tour, the four majors and the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, should he of course make the team automatically or be chosen by captain Jim Furyk.

The DP World Tour could nevertheless prove appealing for him in 2027, just as it will do for the likes of Rahm, Hatton and Garcia, who all have status on the circuit.

Garcia, who spoke exclusively to GolfMagic this week, expressed delight at returning home to the European Tour where his professional career began in 1999. The 46-year-old Spaniard is also targeting a potential joint-record 11th Ryder Cup appearance next September.

Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson and Joaquin Niemann are other former LIV players who are expected to have opportunities to compete on the DP World Tour through invites at select tournaments.

DeChambeau, however, has a particularly attractive offer on the table.

The door to European golf has reportedly been opened exclusively for him, but whether he chooses to walk through it remains to be seen.

With LIV Golf now set to end, DeChambeau's next move is one of the biggest unanswered questions in the sport.
