Alfred Dunhill Links Championship tee times: R2
LIV Golf recruit Dustin Johnson shone on the opening day of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Johnson, 41, has had another miserable season in the major championships, but the American showed his class at Carnoustie on Thursday.
Two-time major champion Johnson carded a bogey-free 64 to sit only one shot behind early leaders Matthew Jordan, Darius Van Driel and Ryan Brehm.
Johnson put circles on his card at 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 11. He also eagled the par-5 12th.
Several of Europe's Ryder Cup stars are also in the field.
Defending champion Tyrrell Hatton, who secured the winning half point last week at Bethpage Black in New York, opened with a 66.
Matthew Fitzpatrick and Tommy Fleetwood both carded 67s. Robert MacIntyre shot a 66.
The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is one of the most popular events on the DP World Tour's schedule.
Competitors play 18 holes at the Old Course, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.
The final round is played at the Old Course.
