Sergio Garcia eyes spectacular PGA Tour return as Ryder Cup comeback plan emerges
Garcia has told Luke Donald he will do “everything” he possibly can to make Europe’s 2027 Ryder Cup team.

Sergio Garcia has hinted at a surprise return to the PGA Tour as he plots a route back into Europe’s Ryder Cup team for 2027.
The 2017 Masters champion is now a free agent after being released from his LIV Golf contract, leaving him to consider his options after more than four years with the breakaway league.
Speaking to Spanish reporters ahead of this week’s Open de Espana in Madrid, Garcia admitted a PGA Tour return is now a possibility.
Garcia's latest comments have been translated into English within this article.
Asked by a reporter whether he would consider returning to the PGA Tour in the near future, Garcia replied: “It’s a possibility.”
“I turn 47 in January, so it’s an option, as is the Champions Tour when I turn 50 – I’d like to play some of those tournaments, especially the majors. These are things you have to consider at my age.”
But Garcia has another major target in sight.
The Spaniard remains the all-time record points scorer in Ryder Cup history and wants one more chance to represent Europe at Adare Manor in 2027.
Garcia has chalked up an impressive 28.5 points.
Across 10 Ryder Cups from 1999 through to his last in 2021, Garcia has played in 45 matches and racked up 25 wins, 13 losses, and seven ties.
If there is anyone who has been there, seen it, done it, and even got the T-shirt at a Ryder Cup, then it's Sergio Garcia.

Sergio Garcia not giving up hope of making 2027 Ryder Cup team
Garcia has already spoken to captain Luke Donald and says he will do everything possible to make the team.
Should he punch his ticket to Ireland next September, it would mark his 11th appearance on a European Ryder Cup side.
“I’ve spoken with Luke,” said Garcia.
“I told him I’m going to do everything I can to make the team, or that I’m willing to help in any way – as a vice-captain or however else they might need me.
“It’s a Ryder Cup year, so I want to give myself the best possible chance of making the team. That would be wonderful. I also want to play in all the majors – all four, if possible – and climb the world rankings.”
Garcia already confirmed in an interview with GolfMagic earlier this summer that he would be returning to the DP World Tour in 2027.
He further confirmed that with reporters on Wednesday.
“Without a doubt, I’ll be playing on the DP World Tour,” Garcia said of his playing schedule for next season.
“The DP World Tour is my tour and I’ve always wanted to support it fully.”

Garcia's playing future remains complicated, however, with LIV Golf still determining its next phase.
Having first joined LIV Golf from the start in the summer of 2022, Garcia has now sought to terminate his contract amid uncertainty over the league's future and concerns that his status was affecting other playing and sponsorship opportunities.
The Spaniard is now free to consider his next move as LIV attempts to secure a reported $300 million investment from BC Partners.
“I don’t really know how things will play out with the DP World Tour regarding LIV 2.0,” Garcia said.
“We’ll have to wait and see. That doesn’t mean I won’t go or that I’ll definitely stay with LIV. I do what I believe is best for myself, my family and my team.”
There are also significant obstacles, just as there for all LIV players who are now contemplaing a route back to the PGA Tour.
LIV players currently face a one-year suspension if they seek a return to their former circuit.
That is something current Race to Dubai leader Patrick Reed has just had to serve following four years on LIV Golf.
For now though, Garcia is keeping his cards close to his chest.
“It’s great to have plenty of options, but the decision hasn’t been made yet,” he said.
“When I make it, you’ll know.”
