Viktor Hovland withdraws from DP World India Championship

European Ryder Cup star Viktor Hovland appears to have withdrawn from this week's DP World India Championship.

Hovland was set to tee it up at Delhi Golf Club alongside the likes of Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and defending champion Tommy Fleetwood.

But the Norwegian's name has disappeared from the entry list.

Hovland committed to the tournament four months ago alongside reigning Open champion Ryan Fox, so his withdrawal is likely down to a personal reason or an injury.

However, no official explanation has been provided for his absence.

GolfMagic has contacted Hovland's team for comment.

The 29-year-old's withdrawal is a significant change to the field ahead of the second edition of the tournament, which is scheduled to take place over October 15-18.

Hovland had been one of the headline names confirmed for the event, with organisers assembling a strong international field featuring several major champions and Ryder Cup stars.

Fleetwood returns to Delhi as defending champion after winning the inaugural edition in 2025, while McIlroy is among the leading attractions as the DP World Tour season approaches its climax.

The tournament boasts a $4m prize fund.

Hovland has established himself as one of Europe's leading players since turning professional, winning multiple titles on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour and representing Europe in the Ryder Cup.

The Norwegian enjoyed a standout 2023 campaign, winning the FedEx Cup after victories at the BMW Championship and Tour Championship.

Hovland's form dipped considerably after he played a starring role in Europe's Ryder Cup victory in 2023, but he has enjoyed a successful 2026 campaign.

Hovland claimed his eighth PGA Tour title in June after defeating world number one Scottie Scheffler in a playoff at the Travelers Championship.

Hovland followed his win with a tie for 13th at the Genesis Scottish Open before missing the cut at The Open Championship.

He subsequently finished 19th at the FedEx St Jude Championship and tied 33rd at the BMW Championship.

He ended the FedExCup playoffs in impressive fashion, finishing second at East Lake after holding the lead heading into the final round of the Tour Championship.

Scheffler ultimately overturned the deficit to claim the title.

Hovland also recorded a third-place finish at the RBC Canadian Open and a top-10 result at the WM Phoenix Open.
