Hovland was born in Oslo on 18 September 1997 to Harald Hovland and Galina Hovland.

Hovland attended Oklahoma State University.

He turned professional following the aforementioned U.S. Open and made his PGA Tour debut at the Travelers Championship.

At the time he turned professional he was ranked number one amateur in the world.

First PGA Tour win

Ryder Cup

Frustratingly for Hovland, the European sad was dismantled 19-9 by the U.S team led by Steve Stricker.

But he made amends for that defeat, playing a starring role in the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy.

Hovland went 3-0-1 at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club as Luke Donald's Europe defeated Team USA by five points.

Elsewhere, he also represented Norway in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Undoubtedly, Hovland's biggest individual achievement to date came when he won the 2022-2023 FedEx Cup.

He capped off that win with victory at the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake.

Hovland defeated Xander Schauffele by five strokes.

His victory netted him a remarkable $18m (£14.1) in prize money.
