Anthony Kim is back in the spotlight, and this time it’s not just for his golf.

The 40-year-old former PGA Tour star has announced he will donate 1% of his prize money from every LIV Golf event to mental health charities in the host city—a pledge that perfectly aligns with his long-time mantra of being “1% better.”

Kim shared the news on X / Twitter:

"My wife & I have been thinkin of how we give back 4 all the blessings we have received so starting this week @livgolf_league HONG KONG we will donate 1% of my prize money 2 supportin a mental health charity in that city so pls let us know which 1s R great organizations. @discoverylandcompany @malbongolf @4AcesGC_ @UnderArmour 1% BETTER."

Kim's announcement has impressed plenty of golf fans on social media, and rightly so with all LIV Golf events operating with a $20 million prize purse.

Each winner of a LIV Golf event earns $4m.

So every time Kim wins a tournament, a mental health charity of Kim's choosing will receive $40,000.

Kim’s return to golf is nothing short of remarkable. He overcame a 12-year hiatus caused by severe addiction, mental health struggles, and injuries.

Open about his past, Kim has shared that he used substances to cope with pain, battled daily suicidal thoughts for nearly two decades, and lost his identity before getting sober.

His shock return to the game in 2024 then culminated in a dramatic and emotional win at LIV Golf Adelaide last month. It was a victory testament to his resilience. Kim defeated two of the league's biggest names, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, marking his first international victory in over 16 years.

Kim earned his spot back on the LIV Golf League via the Promotions event at the start of the year and joined Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC.

Off the course, Kim has also signed a partnership with Discovery Land Company, whose logo now features prominently on his tour bag.

At LIV Golf Hong Kong, Kim currently sits T24 after a 3-under 67, but the leaderboard is buzzing. Carlos Ortiz leads after a stunning 10-under 60, with Dean Burmester on 8-under.

Defending champion Sergio Garcia shares third place with Talor Gooch, Scott Vincent, and Y.H. Song.

Meanwhile, Jon Rahm posted a 4-under 66, but Bryson DeChambeau struggled to a level-par 70 in a subdued opening round.

Kim’s charitable initiative highlights how even a small slice—just 1%—can make a meaningful difference in mental health communities.

Coupled with his remarkable comeback, Kim’s story is a powerful reminder that recovery, resilience, and giving back can coexist.

From the highs of victory to the personal battles he has overcome, Kim is proving that being “1% better” resonates both on and off the course.
