Bryson DeChambeau makes fresh move as LIV Golf future takes new twist

DeChambeau's reps have reportedly contacted the DP World Tour about potential additional appearances beyond December's Nedbank Golf Challenge.

Bryson DeChambeau could be set to expand his playing schedule beyond LIV Golf after his representatives reportedly made contact with the DP World Tour over potential tournament appearances.

According to The Telegraph’s James Corrigan, DeChambeau’s management team has been in discussions with officials at Wentworth about additional events the two-time U.S. Open champion could play on the former European Tour.

The development comes at a significant moment for both DeChambeau and LIV Golf, with the 33-year-old American now arguably the biggest remaining name the breakaway league will be desperate to retain.

DeChambeau has already committed to playing the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa this December, marking his first regular DP World Tour appearance in almost six years.

However, Corrigan’s latest report suggests that Sun City event in honour of golf legend Gary Player may not necessarily be a one-off.

There is currently no indication that DeChambeau intends to become a DP World Tour member, meaning any additional appearances would not necessarily signal a move away from LIV Golf.

Players have until the end of this month to take up DP World Tour membership for the 2027 season.

For now, DeChambeau’s representatives appear to be exploring their options rather than preparing an immediate exit from LIV.

DeChambeau vital to LIV's future

The update to DeChambeau's potential new schedule comes 24 hours after Jon Rahm confirmed his exit from LIV Golf.

Rahm's lawyer made it clear on Wednesday that the two-time major champion will no longer continue with the breakaway league, bringing an end to his association with LIV after his blockbuster $350 million move at the end of 2023.

His departure follows Sergio Garcia’s successful attempt to terminate his own LIV contract, albeit the record Ryder Cup points scorer has not fully slammed the door shut on competing on a potential 2.0 league.

But with Rahm out, Garcia potentially following him, and rumours of plenty of other stars heading for the exit door, there is seemingly huge pressure on LIV being able to keep hold of DeChambeau.

As Corrigan puts it in his latest report for Telegraph Sport, "it's now Bryson or bust for LIV 2.0."

The American’s multi-year LIV contract expires at the end of 2026, although he remains legally tied down to the league while questions over existing player agreements are resolved.

DeChambeau has not indicated that he intends to leave, however, his lawyers were among those seeking clarity over player contracts during Wednesday’s court hearing.

Front Office Sports reported on Wednesday that lawyers representing DeChambeau, Cam Smith, Ben An, Marc Leishman, Cameron Tringale, Matthew Wolff and Harold Varner III have all sought further clarification over their agreements.

The issue follows Garcia’s successful move to terminate his contract, with LIV having been granted permission to reject certain executory agreements, including player participation contracts.

The matter is due back in court on October 14.

Could Nedbank lead to more?

DeChambeau’s confirmed appearance at the Nedbank Golf Challenge will now take on added significance.

The December 3-6 tournament at Gary Player Country Club will be his first regular DP World Tour start in nearly six years.

If further appearances are subsequently announced, it could suggest DeChambeau is looking to maintain a broader competitive schedule beyond LIV as the league undergoes major changes.

For now, though, there is no evidence that he is preparing to follow Rahm or Garcia out of the league.

The latest development simply adds another layer to an increasingly uncertain picture.

DeChambeau remains one of LIV’s most valuable assets, but with his representatives now reportedly exploring opportunities on the DP World Tour, his schedule — and his eventual position within professional golf’s changing landscape — will be one to watch closely.
