Bryson DeChambeau sends cryptic LIV Golf message but fans think he's just being sarcastic

Bryson DeChambeau has sent LIV Golf fans into a frenzy with a cryptic five-word message — but many believe the two-time major champion is simply being sarcastic.

“It was a good run,” DeChambeau posted on Instagram (see below) 24 hours after LIV Golf Indianapolis, alongside a series of photographs from his time with the breakaway league.

On the surface, it sounds like a farewell.

But there is one major problem with that theory since DeChambeau had a very different message for LIV Golf's broadcast immediately after Sunday's final round.

The Crushers captain spoke positively about the future when finishing tied third in Indiana.

DeChambeau said there was “a lot of potential moving forward” and revealed he had “great thoughts” about what could happen as LIV transitions from 1.0 to 2.0.

He even signed off with perhaps his biggest tease yet.

“I think there's something fun coming,” DeChambeau said.

DeChambeau's quotes have led many fans to interpret Monday's five-word post as tongue-in-cheek rather than a genuine goodbye.

If DeChambeau genuinely believed LIV Golf was about to disappear, why would he have been so bullish about its future just 24 hours earlier?

There are certainly analysts and fans who believe the end has arrived, however.

LIV Golf Indianapolis marked the final event of LIV 1.0 as we know it, while talks reportedly continue over the league's next phase and potential investment from BC Partners. 

DeChambeau's contract has also expired, leaving one of the sport's most recognisable players technically a free agent.

Jon Rahm's future also appears unknown, with some reports emerging this month that the Spaniard has already agreed a route back to the PGA Tour.

The Legion XIII captain was asked by one reporter what lies ahead for him, only he appeared more interested in his barber's appointment and geting back to his family. 

His teammate Tyrrell Hatton felt similar. 

DeChambeau is not alone in reflecting on the end of an era though. 

A number of LIV players have taken to social media over the past 24 hours to thank fans for their support over the past five seasons. 

Ian Poulter, co-captain of Majesticks GC, posted a lengthy statement reflecting on the experience, signing off with: “LIV 1.0 - it's been one hell of a ride.”

That wording, alongside DeChambeau's post, has only intensified the speculation.

But there is a crucial difference. 

Poulter appeared to be closing a chapter, while DeChambeau had just told the world that something exciting could be coming next.

So what did he mean by “It was a good run”?

Perhaps it really is the end for DeChambeau and LIV Golf.

Or perhaps, as many fans suspect, the world's most unpredictable golf personality is simply having a little fun with everyone and 2.0 could still very much be on the cards. 

Either way, DeChambeau has achieved exactly what he tends to do best: get everyone talking.
