Joaquin Niemann reveals what Donald Trump was really like after LIV Golf victory

Joaquin Niemann has revealed what it was like to meet United States President Donald Trump after claiming a record ninth LIV Golf victory at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster.

The Chilean produced a dominant display at LIV Golf New York, finishing three strokes ahead of Harold Varner III to secure another title on the Saudi-backed circuit.

The victory moved Niemann to nine LIV Golf wins, more than any other player in the league. 

However, Niemann's latest triumph came with another memorable moment after Trump attended the final round at his New Jersey golf course.

Trump arrived by private helicopter while Niemann was on his way to victory, before later meeting the 27-year-old in private and presenting him with a special medal to mark his success at Bedminster.

Niemann, who celebrated his victory with his wife Christina Hellema Puga, had nothing but positive things to say about his interaction with the U.S. President.

Niemann said it was "really special" to have Trump attend his victory and praised the President's passion for golf.

"Yeah, it was really special to have Mr. President come in and see us," Niemann said.

"He loves golf. He definitely loves it. He loved us as well."

Trump has been a prominent supporter of LIV Golf, with several of his golf courses having hosted events since the league launched.

Niemann also thanked Trump and his family for the way they treat LIV Golf's players whenever they compete at his properties.

"It's very nice the way that the whole family treats us, the players, the pros, the team, the amenities they have at the golf courses, the facilities, the food, everything is amazing," added Niemann, after being presented with a special medal from the President. 

The Chilean also acknowledged how busy Trump is and said he appreciated him taking the time to attend the tournament.

"It just shows how much it matters for him to be out here, especially how busy he is. Just for me, there's a lot of appreciation for him just having his presence here."

Trump was also seen speaking with major champion Gary Player and former LIV Golf chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan during the final round.

LIV Golf faces uncertain future

Niemann's victory came at an important time for LIV Golf, with the league's future beyond the current season still unclear.

LIV Golf New York is expected to have been the penultimate event of the season, with the Team Championship reportedly unlikely to take place. 

That would leave next week's LIV Golf Indianapolis as the final event of the campaign.

The league is also working on securing new financial backing after the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) confirmed earlier this season that will withdraw its spending beyond this season.

BC Partners is understood to be leading the race to become LIV Golf's new financial partner, with CEO Scott O'Neil hoping to finalise a deal soon.

The uncertainty means questions remain over LIV Golf's schedule, prize money and playing roster for next season.

TNT Sports host Craig Doyle appeared to indicate Niemann might not be on LIV Golf in 2027. 

For now, though, Niemann can celebrate another landmark achievement.

His ninth LIV Golf title has made him the league's all-time winningest player — and his meeting with Trump provided another memorable moment from a significant victory at Bedminster.
