LIV Golf could hardly have scripted it any better after 36-holes as marquee players Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson were set for a final round duel in Nevada.

Except the Spaniard appeared to completely forget there were only 18 holes left as he spoke to the media after the second round alongside DeChambeau

DeChambeau had just shot an 8-under 62 to sit atop the leaderboard with Johnson on 11-under. Rahm was only two adrift.

Asked by a reporter about the 'sprint finish', Rahm said: "Honestly, I forget it's 54 holes."

He added: "Up until you mentioned it, I completely forgot. It's just competition. You go out there, shoot the lowest you can, and that's it.

"That's all I can say."

Rahm also caused some confusion amongst some X users for comments that didn't appear to be made ironically.

The world of men's professional golf is still completely divided and we are no closer to ending the schism between the Saudi Arabia-backed breakaway and the established PGA Tour

Some high-profile players have suggested now is the time to move on and allow the players to move freely amongst the tours without penalty.

Time after time, some of the biggest names in the game have suggested all the fans want is the strongest fields.

"I think it's what everybody wants to see," Rahm said on Friday. "It's always a little bit better for a player when you win and you know you actually had to compete against the best in the world at their best. There's no better feeling."

"As much as we enjoy it, the spectators will enjoy it more. It's what everybody wants to see. You want to see the best at their best, and may the best win."

One X user took issue with Rahm's comments by writing: "In the latest episode of golf has completely lost its mind, *Jon Rahm* says everyone wants to see the best against the best except he wasn't speaking ironically or about a desired future but about the final round of this week's LIV event.

"It's a great final group for LIV, but you'll get that when you carry so much dross in your fields.

"However you dress it though, this isn't the best against the best. DJ has been a long way from his own best for a while now. And you can't say best without Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy."
