Latest Jon Rahm news prompts mostly unanimous reaction from golf fans

Former world number one Jon Rahm has been named by Forbes as the second-richest athlete in the world for 2024 after his mega-money move to LIV Golf.

Golf fans were quick to point out Jon Rahm was 'given' money from LIV instead of earning it on the course after he was named as the second richest athlete in the world by Forbes.

As many as five professional golfers feature on the updated list

And it was absolutely no surprise to see Rahm as one of the wealthiest, given his eye-watering move to the Saudi-backed breakaway last December.

Details of Rahm's LIV contract are not publicly known and he even finds it amusing when people speculate the true amount.

"I'm not gonna comment on the numbers," he previously said.

The assumed sum of money Rahm received when he put pen to paper with LIV was $566.4m (£450m).

Forbes believe Rahm's total earnings for the year was $218m.

Unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo tops the list with $260m.

The incomes were tracked between 1 May 2023 and 1 May 2024.

"Certainly hasn't earned it," one X user said reacting to the news.

Another added: "And that's why he hasn't been competitive this year as he doesn't need to earn money from golf."

Elsewhere, Rory McIroy, Tiger Woods, Cameron Smith and Scottie Scheffler feature in the top 50.
