Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has approved a $266.6 million capital injection into LIV Golf, taking its total investment in the league to $5.3 billion.

The approval, signed by PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan on 1 February 2026, was first reported by Money In Sport.

LIV Golf has spent an average of $100 million per month over 2024 and 2025, funded by regular injections from PIF rather than an annual lump sum.

At this rate, cumulative investment is expected to exceed $6 billion by the end of 2026.

Per Money In Sport, the league’s prize fund has risen by $65 million for 2026.

Total tournament purses now stand at $32.3 million, up from $25 million.

  • Individual prizes remain at $20 million per event
  • The team prize fund has doubled to $10 million per tournament and is now shared among all 13 teams
  • A new $2.3 million “individual prize via team” pool allows captains of the top three teams to award bonuses: $1 million for first place, $800,000 for second, and $500,000 for third

The recent exits of Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed from LIV Golf are expected to partially offset these increased payouts.

Koepka is now already back on the PGA Tour, while Reed will rejoin after his suspension ends in August.

For now, Reed is fully focused on spoling Rory McIlroy's Race to Dubai party on the DP World Tour this November.

There are also indications LIV Golf is trimming tournament staging expenses.

Money In Sport states: "Performance 54 Group (P54), the UK-based company that manages LIV events, reported results for the year ending April 30, 2025, noting that 'there has been a small increase in the number of events under management but aggregate budgets have reduced so turnover has declined slightly.'

"P54 also confirmed that 'due to the successful delivery of LIV golf events staged by the Group', they have been renewed in all markets for multiple future years."

For the first time in its five-year history, LIV Golf events now award Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points.

Only the top 10 finishers in each tournament earn points, a limitation that has drawn criticism from some players.

The move, however, provides a pathway for competitors to qualify for major championships.

The LIV Golf League season continues in Hong Kong in two weeks' time where Sergio Garcia defends his title.

Two events have already taken place in 2026, with debutant Elvis Smylie proving his worth with a monumental performance to hold off the league's best player in Jon Rahm at Riyadh.

A week later, a resurgent Anthony Kim produced one of the best golf comeback stories of all time with an emotional win at LIV Golf Adelaide.

With prize money rising and PIF funding ongoing, LIV Golf’s financial backing shows no signs of slowing, even as the league seeks to control costs and grow its global footprint.
