Report: Phil Mickelson expected to miss another LIV Golf event
Phil Mickelson is set to miss LIV Golf's stop in Virginia.
Six-time major champion Phil Mickelson is set to miss another LIV Golf event, according to a report.
The breakaway tour, currently engulfed in a funding crisis, heads to Trump National Golf Club in Virginia this week for the seventh event of their campaign.
Mickelson, 55, announced at the beginning of the season that he was only expected to miss the first two stops because of a undisclosed family health matter.
But he has been reduced to just one competitive appearance, in South Africa last month, where he tied for 48th in the 57-man field.
Mickelson, a three-time Masters champion, was also forced to miss the first men's major of the year last month at Augusta National.
Sports Illustrated have reported that Mickelson has decided not to play this week.
His replacement in the field is yet to be announced. Ollie Schniederjans and Wade Ormsby have previously filled in the for the HyFlyers captain.
Mickelson's decision not to tee it up means his status for next week's PGA Championship is unclear.
Lefty became the oldest major champion aged 50 when he won the PGA five years ago at Kiawah Island, only a few months before he joined LIV Golf for a reported $200m.
Mickelson finished runner-up at the 2023 Masters to Jon Rahm but in 11 major starts since has missed seven cuts and has no finishes inside the top 40.
His last social media post was on 12 April where he congratulated Rory McIlroy on defending his Masters title.
Dustin Johnson's major streak saved
Elsewhere, two-time major champion Dustin Johnson has secured a late invitation by the PGA of America to tee up next week at the second men's major of the season held at Aronimink Golf Club.
Confirmation of the invitation was provided by Johnson's 4Aces team, although the PGA of America are yet to comment.
It means 18-year streak of appearing in all four majors remains intact.
He had been in danger of missing a major for the first time since 2008, largely due to his slide in the Official World Golf Ranking.
LIV Golf are now recognised by the sport's global rankings body but Johnson is still a lowly 468th.
Johnson also received an invitation to play the PGA Championship in 2025.
In 16 previous appearances, he has recorded six top-10 finishes, including runner-up efforts in 2019 and 2020.
Johnson needs a big year on the course.
His 10-year exemption into the U.S. Open runs out in 2026 and his not currently qualified for this year's Open at Royal Birkdale.
The big-hitting American has endured a modest start to his 2026 campaign, registering just one top-10 finish in eight starts.
That result came at LIV Golf Singapore in March, while he also missed the cut at the DP World Tour's Dubai Desert Classic and finished tied 33rd at The Masters.
