KPMG Women's PGA Championship hopeful Angel Yin admitted she runs the risk of getting told off by architect Gil Hanse after she labelled the course for the third women's major of the year 'quite boring'.

The World No.10 carded a 1-under 71 at Fields Ranch East in Texas on Thursday to trail early leader and one of the tournament favourites, Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul, by three strokes.

America's Yin raised eyebrows after she offered a frank assessment of what she made of the course - which will host the men's PGA Championship in 2027 - in a news conference after the first round.

Temperatures are expected to soar today and Yin was asked how she was going to be prepared for the challenge.

"It's going to be good golf-wise because the ball will fly further and make the course a little bit shorter," Yin said.

"I like playing on faster greens so I'm going to like that.

"And then, yeah, it's going to be a balancing of hydration and keeping focus because this golf course is quite boring, so..."

Asked to elaborate, she added: "That's what I mean [it's boring].

"It's just kind of repetitive and there are challenges but it's very subtle. Stepping up on the tee, what did I start on, the back nine gets really repetitive on the tee.

"Yeah, I mean, not something that's controversial. I was like shocked. Did I say [something] that's going to drop a bomb? Maybe Gil will give me a call. 'How dare you just trash on my golf course?!'

"It's just the way it is. It's subtle challenges, and I think that's also a challenging part."

Needless to say, Yin's comments were shared widely and a number of golf fans offered their two cents.

"My first impression was I never want to play this golf course," one X user said.

Another added: "Embarrassing answer."

This person said: "She is right. All the holes look the same and present horribly on TV."
