Golfer DQ'd from KPMG Women's PGA Championship for silly mistake
Heather Angell was disqualified from the KPMG Women's PGA Championship on Thursday after signing an incorrect scorecard.
A teaching pro fell foul of the golf rules on Thursday at the KPMG Women's Championship.
Heather Angell, a certified Class A PGA member, was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard after day one of the third women's major of the year in Texas.
Angell thought she made a five on Field Ranch East's 16th hole but she actually made a bogey.
She was disqualified per Rule 3.3b(3) for returning a scorecard with a score on a hole lower than she actually made.
Angell would've had work to do and then some to make the 36-hole cut, given the projected cut is currently 3-over par and her actual score was 15-over.
Jeeno Thitikul sets early pace
Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul edged in front after 18 holes of the KMPG Women's PGA Championship.
The 22-year-old went round in 4-under 68 to lead by one stroke from Australia's Minjee Lee.
Thitikul, who is chasing her first major title and would leapfrog Nelly Korda as the best player in the world with a win, hit six bogeys and one double bogey on Thursday.
"I think my putter went really well today," said Thitikul.
"In the front nine we had a lot of breeze going and more than the back nine, but [I made putts at] seven, eight, nine which boost the confidence up making the turn to the back nine.
"I really told myself just be patient and focused on the next shot, because [in the] majors you [are] going to miss anyway. What a way to bounce back. It's more important."
The aforementioned Korda is four strokes adrift after carding a level par 72.
Korda, who injured her neck during her practice round earlier in the week, insisted that she is on the mend despite finding it difficult to sleep this week.
Ireland's Leona Maguire is also on the same score as Korda.
English duo Georgia Hall and Charley Hull were among those to struggle and face a battle to make the 36-hole cut.
Hall carded a 73 whilst Hull signed for a 76.
