3M Open Betting Tips: Scottie Scheffler has penalty kick to end PGA Tour win drought

It was a frustrating week for us at the 154th Open Championship, but GolfMagic Editor and betting expert Andy Roberts is looking to hit back immediately on the PGA Tour at this week's 3M Open.

The last couple of months have been particularly challenging for golf punters, with a string of surprise winners blowing apart betting slips. This week, however, Andy believes there's one standout selection who simply has to be backed.

That man is World No.1 Scottie Scheffler.

3M Open Betting Tips

Despite making his debut at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota, Scheffler arrives as the clear player to beat in what is one of the weakest fields on the PGA Tour schedule this season.

Although victories have been harder to come by than his incredible ball-striking deserves, Scheffler continues to churn out elite performances. He still leads the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total and Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, while remaining comfortably the best player in the world despite recording just one win this campaign.

That victory came at The American Express back in January, but his consistency since has been remarkable. Week after week he has put himself in contention, with only one thing preventing him from turning those chances into trophies.

At Royal Birkdale last week, Scheffler endured another miserable week on the greens, finishing near the bottom of the putting statistics, yet still managed to finish tied fourth - just three shots behind eventual champion Ryan Fox.

That result means he has recorded three top-five finishes in his last four starts, with only an uncharacteristic missed cut at the Genesis Scottish Open interrupting another hugely consistent run.

Unsurprisingly, Scheffler heads the betting once again at 11/4. They're short odds, but they're entirely justified given, with all due respect, the quality of the opposition.

In fact, you have to scroll all the way down to World No.30 Hideki Matsuyama before finding the next highest-ranked player in this week's field.

Defending champion Kurt Kitayama, at 37th in the world, is also in the lineup. 

Quite simply, this is the sort of tournament Scheffler should be winning.

Yes, it's his first appearance at the 3M Open, but his game travels anywhere. If he can't get the job done against this field, it becomes difficult to see where another victory arrives before the season ends. This feels like a golden opportunity to remind everyone why he's still the world's best player.

It is slightly surprising to see Scheffler teeing it up after two demanding weeks in the United Kingdom, but perhaps that's all the motivation he needs. With the FedEx Cup Playoffs just around the corner, lifting a trophy would provide the perfect boost heading into the season finale at East Lake. 

The advice this week is simple - don't overthink it.

Even an average performance by Scheffler's extraordinary standards should leave him firmly in contention. His tee-to-green game is streets ahead of everyone else in this field, and TPC Twin Cities is traditionally a venue where plenty of birdies are available.

Winning scores regularly creep beyond 20-under par, so the putter will still need to cooperate. The encouraging sign is that Scheffler creates more quality birdie opportunities than almost anyone in world golf. Over 72 holes, you'd expect enough of those chances to fall.

Scheffler also sounded positive despite the disappointment of missing out on The Open title, insisting after his final round that his game remains in excellent shape. In truth, had he produced even an average putting performance at Royal Birkdale, there's every chance he would have run away with the Claret Jug.

That's why Andy is keeping things straightforward this week.

11/4 is skinny, but Scheffler will run away with the 2026 3M Open.
