Si Woo Kim will take a commanding five-shot lead into the weekend at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson after narrowly missing out on a historic sub-60 round at TPC Craig Ranch in Texas.

The PGA Tour has confirmed adjusted third-round tee times on Saturday due to forecast inclement weather in the area, with players set to tee off between approximately 9.30am and 11.30am CT in groups of three from both the first and 10th tees.

Kim produced the round of the tournament on Friday, carding a sensational 11-under 60 to set a new course record and move to 18-under par overall.

The 30-year-old South Korean looked set to become just the 15th player in PGA Tour history to shoot a round in the 50s when he stood on the 18th tee at 12-under for the day.

After finding the fairway, Kim’s adrenaline-fuelled approach flew beyond the green on the demanding par-4 closing hole, and he was unable to save par after failing to get up and down.

Despite the late disappointment, Kim’s brilliant 60 matched the lowest round of his PGA Tour career.

He also fired a second-round 60 during his breakthrough victory at the 2016 Wyndham Championship, the first of his four PGA Tour titles.

Only 14 players have previously recorded sub-60 rounds on the PGA Tour, while Jim Furyk remains the only player to shoot a 58, achieved at the 2016 Travelers Championship. Furyk also posted a 59 at the 2013 BMW Championship.

Kim will head into the third round with a sizeable advantage over world number one Scottie Scheffler, fellow South Korean Sungjae Im, Japan’s Kensei Hirata, and former U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, all tied for second on 13-under par.

Scheffler, who played alongside Kim during the opening two rounds, also impressed on Friday with a superb 63 to surge firmly into contention as he bids to defend his title.

Elsewhere, hometown favourite Jordan Spieth ignited hopes of a charge with his lowest round of the season, a sparkling 62 that moved him to 12-under par.

Meanwhile, Brooks Koepka slipped down the leaderboard after a two-under 69 left him tied for 15th at 10-under heading into the weekend.

Kim will join Hirata and Im for the final three-ball on Saturday.
