Colt Knost reveals what Scottie Scheffler told Amanda Balionis in CBS interview that never aired

Colt Knost has revealed what Scottie Scheffler told Amanda Balionis in an interview that CBS Sports viewers never got to see during the Tour Championship.

The CBS Sports commentator discussed the unaired exchange on the latest episode of GOLF's Subpar, admitting he "really wished" the network had shown the footage.

Knost explained that CBS ran out of time during its Saturday coverage, meaning Scheffler's post third-round interview with Balionis could not be shown.

However, the former PGA Tour pro admitted he had no idea why the interview was not subsequently included in Sunday's broadcast.

"I really wish we would have aired this, I have no idea why we didn't," Knost said on GOLF's Subpar. 

The interview took place before Viktor Hovland, who led the tournament after 54 holes, completed the final pairing at East Lake.

Knost explained that Scheffler had spoken to Balionis before Hovland's post-round interview, but the broadcaster was already approaching its 7pm local cut-off.

"Obviously we were out at 7pm local time there on Saturday," continued Knost. 

"Viktor Hovland was the final pairing there and he comes off the green, and interviews with Amanda [Balionis].

"Well, before that, Scottie Scheffler sat down with Amanda to do a little interview, but we didn't get to air it on the CBS window because we ran out of time."

What made the post third-round interview particularly memorable for Knost was Scheffler's response when Balionis asked him to predict the winning score heading into Sunday's final round.

His answer was just four words.

"Whatever I shoot."

Knost was clearly impressed by the confidence behind the response and believes it showed exactly what makes Scheffler such a formidable competitor.

"And I don't know why we didn't show this the next day because I thought it was awesome," Knost added.

"It shows Scottie being a little funny but also how much he believes in himself."

Knost went on to describe the World No.1 as one of the most competitive players he has encountered.

"He's a killer," Knost said.

"We talk about all these guys. I mean, you gotta be a son of a b**** out there on the golf course and you've got to have that dog in you, and you gotta have that killer instinct, and Scottie Scheffler's got that.

"You see it, he is so competitive, one of the most competitive people I've ever met."

Scheffler then backed up his confidence in Sunday's final round. 

Starting three shots behind Hovland, the 30-year-old carded a final-round 66 to finish at 16-under par and win the Tour Championship by three shots.

The victory secured Scheffler's second FedEx Cup, having previously won the season-long competition in 2024, and marked his third PGA Tour title of the 2026 season.

He also collected $10 million for the victory and moved past Tiger Woods as the leading money winner in PGA Tour history.

While Scheffler failed to add to his haul of four major titles in 2026, his Tour Championship triumph still capped another outstanding season and is expected to help him secure a fifth consecutive PGA Tour POTY award.
