Golf fans have ripped into Wyndham Clark after he was seen thumping the turf after duffing a pitch shot on the 9th hole in the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at famed Bay Hill.

Clark came up 40 yards short of the green with his second shot into the par-4 9th.

Unfortunately for him, his ball ended up resting in a divot.

He then proceeded to chunk his wedge shot short of the green and then thumped the turf in disgust.

Clark's actions irked a number of PGA Tour fans, who rushed over to X to voice their opinion.

"Kick him off the Tour, Doug," wrote one golf fan throwing it back to Happy Gilmore.

Golf Lover UK tweeted: "This is pathetic! Said the same for Lowry last week - grow up Wyndham - for gods sake. Set a better example to kids and have some respect for greens staff!"

Another commented: "Should be a fine for damaging the course like that."

One golf fan was happy to let Clark off the hook, citing players should get full relief from finding a divot in the fairway.

"Dumbest rule in golf is not getting relief from a fairway divot," wrote the fan.

Clark then chipped up to six feet from there but missed the bogey putt and walked off with a double.

He quickly regrouped by going birdie-birdie-eagle on holes 10 to 12 to move into a tie for the lead.

But he would go on to bogey the par-4 18th, not without a bit of drama where he was criticised by many golf fans for cheating in the rough.

Clark enters the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational just one shot off the pace as he bids to land his second title of the season.
