South Africa's Garrick Higgo shot a six-under 66 to open up at one-shot lead at the Sanderson Farms Championship at the halfway stage.

The 26-year-old made eight birdies and two bogeys to lead Taylor Montgomery and Eric Cole by one stroke.

Montgomery and Cole's compatriot, Danny Walker, is a shot further back while there is a three-way tie for fifth place.

Higgo credited his confidence and form to recently changing swing coach. He is now working with the renowned Sean Foley, best known for his stint with Tiger Woods.

"We've always been good friends," Higgo said. "Just look at what he did with Michael Kim."

"I obviously played terrible last year. If you look at how I used to swing it till now, it's completely different.

"That whole time frame, it's tough to play competitive. It's tough to play - compete when you're on your best, never mind when you're changing things."

Notable players to miss the cut after 36 holes included European Ryder Cup vice captain Francesco Molinari, Nicolai Hojgaard and Matt Wallace.

The Sanderson Farms Championship is the second event of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup Fall schedule, carrying a total prize purse of $6m.
