Tiger Woods confirms he's been approached for 2027 Ryder Cup captaincy

Tiger Woods may have been contacted by the PGA of America, but he's still on the fence over becoming 2027 US Ryder Cup captain at Adare Manor.

Tiger Woods has revealed he has yet to decide whether he will captain the United States team at the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland.

Speaking ahead of this week’s Genesis Invitational at famed Riviera Country Club, where he is hosting the PGA Tour Signature Event to benefit his TGR Foundation, Woods, 50, confirmed he has been approached by the PGA of America.

But he very much remains on the fence.

"Yeah, they have asked me for my input on it, and I haven't made my decision yet," Woods said of a potential first Ryder Cup captaincy.

"I'm trying to figure out what we're trying to do with our Tour. That's been driving me hours and hours every day and trying to figure out if I can actually do our team, our Team USA and our players and everyone that's going to be involved in the Ryder Cup, if I can do it justice with my time."

The 15-time major champion is currently deeply involved in reshaping the PGA Tour schedule as chairman of the Future Competitions Committee, a role that requires extensive collaboration with players, media partners, sponsors, and other stakeholders. Balancing these commitments with potential playing appearances adds further pressure to his decision.

"Serving on two boards and what I'm doing for the PGA Tour, I'm trying to figure out if I can actually do this and serve the people that are involved and serve them at an honorable level," Woods added.

The United States will aim to bounce back after losing 15-13 to Europe at Bethpage in New York in September 2025.

The stars and stripes have incredibly not won a Ryder Cup on foreign soil since Tom Watson's side defeated Bernhard Gallacher’s team 15-13 at The Belfry in 1993.

The next opportunity comes at Adare Manor from 17–19 September 2027, and Woods will no doubt love another chance to enter the record books.

Other candidates for the Team USA captaincy include Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Webb Simpson, and a potential return for Keegan Bradley, who captained the 2025 side.

Betting odds currently list Woods and Furyk as favourites at 7/2, with Stricker, Simpson, and Brandt Snedeker just behind them.

Over on Europe, Luke Donald is a red-hot 1/4 favourite to keep the captain's armband as the Englishman attempts to become the first captain in 100 years of the Ryder Cup to win it three times in a row.

Woods also addressed his own playing future, including the possibility of competing in The Masters.

He gave a one-word response when pressed by a reporter as to whether Augusta National was off the table:

Woods also piled praise on former PGA Tour pro Anthony Kim for winning his first LIV Golf title in Adelaide on Sunday.

The former World No.1 has not played competitively since missing the cut at The Open in July 2024, following his seventh back surgery in October 2025.

Whether Woods will take on the Ryder Cup captaincy for the first time in his career remains one of the most anticipated decisions in golf over the coming months.
