International Presidents Cup team takes shape as six players secure automatic spots

The International Presidents Cup team is beginning to take shape, with six players securing their places automatically following the conclusion of the Tour Championship at East Lake.

Scottie Scheffler's $10m FedEx Cup victory in Atlanta brought the PGA Tour season to a close on Sunday and, with it, the International qualification standings were finalised ahead of the Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club from September 24-27.

The six automatic qualifiers are: Si Woo Kim, Hideki Matsuyama, Ryan Fox, Tom Kim, Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott.

Scott will make a record 12th appearance for the Internationals. 

All six players have now guaranteed themselves a place on Geoff Ogilvy's International team, leaving the Australian captain with six more spots to fill through his picks.

Ogilvy's six captain picks will be revealed on Tuesday night, when the Australian completes his 12-man roster for the showdown against the United States.

The next six players in the International standings are Corey Conners, Nico Echavarria, Sungjae Im, Ryo Hisatsune, Jason Day and Casey Jarvis.

However, their positions in the standings should not be mistaken for guaranteed Presidents Cup places.

That makes Tuesday night's announcement particularly intriguing, with the captain able to look beyond the order of the standings when deciding who he believes gives the International team its best chance at Medinah.

There is plenty of experience among those currently sitting outside the automatic places. 

Conners and Im are both proven performers at the highest level, while former World No.1 and 2015 PGA champion Day brings considerable Presidents Cup experience and a wealth of big-match pedigree.

Echavarria and Jarvis, meanwhile, can point to victories around the world this season. 

Echavarria claimed the Cognizant Classic in March, while Jarvis has enjoyed an impressive campaign on the DP World Tour, where he has picked up two victories.

The qualification system for the International team is based on Official World Golf Ranking points, with players required to have competed in at least 15 OWGR-rated events between September 8, 2025 and August 31, 2026 to be eligible for automatic qualification.

With that qualification window now closed, the six automatic spots are settled.

The six automatics on Brandt Snedeker's U.S. team were confirmed after the BMW Championship last week. 

Scheffler, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa have already made the team. 

Snedeker will also reveal his picks to the world on Tuesday night. 

With the automatic players now set, the focus is firmly on the captain's picks and the thinking behind them.

Will Ogilvy and Snedeker stick closely to the points standings, reward current form, favour Presidents Cup experience or spring a surprise with players further down the list?

All will be revealed when the skippers confirm their picks in a one-hour Golf Channel special 5pm E.T Tuesday.
