What Donald Trump told Cameron Young after Cadillac Championship triumph
Cameron Young wins big at Doral and opens up on Donald Trump interaction.
Cameron Young delivered a statement performance at the Cadillac Championship, cruising to a six-shot victory at the iconic Blue Monster course at Trump National Doral — and received congratulations from Donald Trump in the process.
The 28-year-old American, who finished at 19-under par, secured his third PGA Tour title and second win of the season with a composed and commanding display in Miami.
Young's latest triumph follows victory at The Players Championship earlier this year, further cementing his rise among the game’s elite.
Speaking after the win, Young was asked about his interaction with the United States President who attended Sunday’s final round alongside family members.
"Yeah, no, he was just very complimentary, the way that he, you know I've been fortunate to meet him before and that's especially with us golfers it's something he loves and I think appreciates how good everybody is on the PGA Tour," said Young.
"So really just hugely complementary and I of course thanked him for hosting us and that was about it."
Young’s victory came comfortably ahead of world number one Scottie Scheffler, underlining his growing confidence and consistency at the highest level.
The only brief scare was his self-imposed penalty on the second hole.
The win also carries significant rewards.
Young takes home a $3.6 million first prize and climbs to third in both the FedEx Cup standings and the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
The tournament marked a notable return for the famed Blue Monster course, which rejoined the PGA Tour schedule for the first time in a decade.
With Trump present on site, Young admitted the experience added a unique dimension to the victory.
"Yeah, it's very unique," Young said.
"He's nothing if not a very, very interesting man. He's very powerful, and it's an honor to get to play in front of him. Hugely grateful to him and his family and his organization that has these beautiful properties and allows us to come and play great golf tournaments on them. This is a special place and great championship golf course, I'm thankful to have it back in the schedule."
Young was photographed on the 18th green alongside the trophy and Trump's son Eric, who works for the Trump Organization.
Young now turns his attention to a busy stretch on the PGA Tour calendar, beginning with the upcoming Truist Championship before shifting focus to the PGA Championship at Aronimink, where he will look to capture his first major title.
"Yeah, I'm looking forward to it," said Young of his next two weeks on the road.
"Major season is a great time of year.
"We go to a great event next week in Charlotte at the Truist, so that's where I'm going now and obviously eyes are toward the PGA, but I've got a tournament to play between now and then."
