When was the last time Scottie Scheffler missed the cut on the PGA Tour?

It feels almost surreal to write, but the game’s dominant force, Scottie Scheffler, is currently propping up the leaderboard at the 2026 Genesis Invitational.

The four-time major champion endured a nightmare opening stretch at Riviera Country Club, sitting at 5-over par through 10 holes before play was suspended due to bad weather on Thursday.

When darkness and rain halted proceedings, Scheffler was tied for last in the elite 72-man field — a position almost unheard of for the runaway World No.1.

He will return early on Friday morning to complete his opening round, with second-round tee times pushed back as a result of the delay.

Scheffler, 29, has built his reputation on relentless consistency.

The American has not missed a cut on the PGA Tour since August 2022 — a staggering run of 67 consecutive made cuts, the longest active streak in men’s professional golf.

To put that into perspective, the next best active run belongs to Harris English with 21.

The all-time PGA Tour record remains the gold standard: Tiger Woods’ 142 consecutive cuts made between 1998 and 2005, spanning from the 1998 Buick Invitational to the 2005 Wachovia Championship.

That is widely regarded as one of the most untouchable records in the sport, alongside Woods' 683 combined weeks as World No.1 and staggering 281 consecutive weeks in the top spot between 2005 and 2010. Scheffler is eating into those OWGR records though, at 179 weeks total and 144 weeks consecutively as of this week.

The most recent consecutive PGA Tour cut streak that ended came last month when two-time major champion Xander Schauffele missed the cut by one shot in his first tournament of the 2026 season at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Schauffele made 72 cuts in a row on the PGA Tour between 2022 and 2025.

Scheffler’s cut streak, while some way off Woods' historic mark of 142, has underlined his status as the most bankable performer in the modern era.

But that remarkable run is now under a bit of threat after his sluggish start at Riviera where he played the first 10 holes in 5-over par.

He started the week at odds of 3/1 and he's already now been pushed out to 25/1 heading into day two.

Some bookies are now going 2/1 for Scheffler to miss the cut.

But this is Scottie Scheffler, and you write him off at your peril.

The 2026 Genesis Invitational — hosted by Woods in support of his TGR Foundation — is one of the PGA Tour’s $20m Signature Events.

This week marks Riviera's 100th staging of the tournament.

Despite the limited 72-player field at the Genesis Invitational, there is still a 36-hole cut, with only the top 50 and ties advancing (plus anyone within 10 shots of the lead).

So all is not lost for Scheffler.

After day one, he finds himself 11 shots behind Aaron Rai, who moved to 6-under par thru 16 holes before play was halted on Thursday.

Grand slam champion Rory McIlroy and in-form American Jacob Bridgeman are hot on the Englishman's heels at 5-under par.

Last week's Pebble Beach winner Collin Morikawa is also in early contention on 3-under par, one shot ahead of Tommy Fleetwood and Hideki Matsuyama.

But for Scheffler, his first-day struggles left him sharing last place with Keegan Bradley, who carded a disappointing 76.

Will Scottie Scheffler miss the cut at the Genesis Invitational?

Choices

For a player who has become synonymous with top-10 finishes and Sunday contention, this is unfamiliar territory.

In addition to his cut streak, Scheffler has racked up 18 consecutive top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour — the best run since Billy Casper recorded 17 between 1964 and 1965.

When did Scheffler last miss the cut on the PGA Tour?

The last occasion Scheffler packed his bags on Friday evening came at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August 2022

Since then, he has been a metronome of excellence — contending in majors, lifting trophies and rarely drifting outside the top of leaderboards.

Riviera is one of the few marquee events missing from Scheffler’s glittering CV.

Despite his dominance elsewhere, he has yet to win this storied Los Angeles tournament, the same story for the likes of Woods, McIlroy and even record 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus who never won here.

Scheffler’s Friday morning resumption will be pivotal. A fast start could steady the ship and preserve one of golf’s most impressive active streaks. Another stumble, however, would mark his first missed cut in over three-and-a-half years.

For most players, sitting near the bottom after 10 holes would be unremarkable, but for Scheffler, it's headline news.

Come Friday afternoon at Riviera, we'll find out whether this rare blip becomes a historic moment — or just another example of why writing off the World No.1 is rarely wise.
