How the cut works at Tiger Woods' Genesis Invitational at Riviera
How does the cut work at the Genesis Invitational?
The 2026 Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club marks the tournament’s 100th anniversary, making it a milestone event in professional golf. Hosted by golf legend and 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, the tournament also benefits his TGR Foundation, supporting educational opportunities for young people.
Even though the Genesis Invitational features a limited field of just 72 players, there is still a halfway cut after 36 holes.
At this stage, the field is reduced to the top 50 players and ties, as well as any competitor within 10 strokes of the leader.
This ensures that only those who remain in strong contention move on to the weekend rounds.
This 36-hole cut format is consistent with the three PGA Tour “Signature Events” hosted by players, including the Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the Memorial Tournament, a practice that has been in place since 2024.
It’s worth noting that even with a smaller field, not all star players are guaranteed to make the weekend.
After the cut, only those in the top 50 (plus ties) or within 10 shots of the leader will continue, while those who miss the cut won’t receive FedExCup points or prize money.
With a total purse of $20 million, the Genesis Invitational offers $4 million and 700 FedExCup points to the champion, making the competition fierce even among a select group of elite golfers.
