Wyndham Clark reveals injury scare as he tackles Scottie Scheffler in…

Wyndham Clark has revealed he sustained a back injury earlier this week but thinks he will be ready to compete at the Texas Children's Houston Open on the PGA Tour.

Clark, 30, has been playing some fantastic golf this season, picking up a victory at the weather-shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am following a third-round 60, which ended up being the final round.

The reigning US Open champion has since added back-to-back runner-up finishes behind World No.1 Scottie Scheffler at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship this month.

On the 72nd hole in his last start at TPC Sawgrass, Clark saw his 15-foot birdie putt do a full lip-out as he came up one stroke shy.

Clark is hoping it's a case of third time lucky against Scheffler, who is the warm 11/4 favourite to make it three wins in a row.

Three-time PGA Tour winner Clark is next up in the betting at 12/1

Wyndham Clark nursing back injury at Texas Children's Houston Open

When pressed by a reporter to talk about his own form coming into Memorial Park, it was there Clark revealed his back injury.

Clark said:

"Yeah, I've been playing some good golf coming off of two second places. If you take Scottie Scheffler out of the field, I might have two wins. So I've played really good and I feel good about my game.
"Unfortunately suffered a little bit of a back injury earlier this week so I'm kind of nursing that, but it's loosening up and I was able to hit some shots today, so I'm looking forward to teeing it up tomorrow."

When asked to expand on the extent of his injury scare, Clark said:

"Just kind of like a muscle. Well, I threw it out. I was in pretty bad shape yesterday, but fortunately I have a great team that has gotten me to be able to swing and hit. So he flew in early yesterday morning. I was only really able to chip and putt, then I did a bunch of rehab and I was able to hit balls today. So just in a short time I've improved a ton and I think I'll be ready for tomorrow."

Scheffler had been battling his own neck injury midway through The Players Championship, but he got his trainer to sort that out for him ahead of the final round.

Clark tees off in the first round of the Houston Open at 1.53pm local time alongside defending champion Tony Finau and Si Woo Kim.

Scheffler is off at 8.53am alongside last week's Valspar champion Peter Malnati and Will Zalatoris.
