Six automatic qualifiers confirmed for 2026 U.S. Presidents Cup team after BMW Championship

Brandt Snedeker's 2026 U.S. Presidents Cup team is beginning to take shape after Wyndham Clark's victory at the BMW Championship confirmed the six automatic qualifiers.

The biggest movement came from Clark, who jumped from seventh to third in the points standings with his win and secured his place at Medinah Country Club in September. His rise pushed Ben Griffin out of the automatic spots, with Griffin dropping from fifth to eighth.

Collin Morikawa also survived a tense battle for the final qualifying position. He finished fourth at the BMW Championship alongside Chris Gotterup, who ended the week seventh and just outside the top six.

Snedeker will now have six captain's picks to make following the Tour Championship as he completes his 12-man team.

The 2026 Presidents Cup takes place at Medinah Country Club in Chicago from September 24-27.

1. Scottie Scheffler

Age: 30 | Presidents Cup record: 3-5-1

There was little doubt about Scheffler's place on the team. 

The World No.1 finished well clear at the top of the standings and has won twice this season, most recently with an eight-shot rout at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

His team record, however, remains an unusual blemish on an otherwise dominant career. 

Scheffler will be looking to improve on his 3-5-1 Presidents Cup record after a difficult Ryder Cup last year too. 

2. Cameron Young

Age: 29 | Presidents Cup record: 1-2-1

Young has enjoyed the season of his career, winning both the Players Championship and Cadillac Championship while adding a third-place finish at The Masters and runner-up finish at The Open.

After going 3-1 at last year's Ryder Cup to joint top score for the stars and stripes, he will likely prove one of Snedeker's key players at Medinah.

3. Wyndham Clark

Age: 32 | Presidents Cup record: 1-2-1

Clark was the week's biggest winner in more ways than one. 

His three-shot BMW Championship victory completed a remarkable turnaround and propelled him into the automatic qualifying places.

Following his CJ Cup Byron Nelson and U.S. Open successes, Clark is playing some of the best golf of his career and has put himself into the conversation for PGA Tour Player of the Year.

4. Sam Burns

Age: 30 | Presidents Cup record: 3-3-3

Burns has not won since March 2023 but has been remarkably consistent this season. 

He arrived at the BMW Championship with six consecutive top-20 finishes, including a runner-up at the U.S. Open and third at The Open.

It will be interesting to see whether captain Snedeker elects to partner Burns with his best friend Scheffler.

While they often spend practice rounds together, it's fair to say their record together in team events is not the best. 

5. Russell Henley

Age: 37 | Presidents Cup record: 3-1-0

Henley secured his second Presidents Cup appearance after winning the Charles Schwab Challenge and posting top-three and top-10 finishes at The Masters and The Open respectively.

His 3-1 record in 2024, including a successful partnership with Scheffler, makes him an intriguing option for Snedeker, albeit the same pairing performed poorly at last year's Ryder Cup.

6. Collin Morikawa

Age: 29 | Presidents Cup record: 6-2-0

Morikawa held on to sixth despite pressure from Gotterup, earning his third consecutive Presidents Cup appearance.

A back injury disrupted much of his season after his Pebble Beach victory, but his strong finish at the BMW Championship was enough to secure his place.

With six captain's picks still available, Gotterup, Griffin, Xander Schauffele, J.J. Spaun and Justin Thomas are among those hoping to force their way into Snedeker's final lineup.

U.S. Presidents Cup Team 2026 - those on the outside looking in
