Keegan Bradley Ryder Cup decision: US captain decides not to pick himself - as it happened

US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley has decided against picking himself for the 2025 matches at Bethpage Black.

Keegan Bradley admitted he was left with a broken heart after he decided not to pick himself as a player for the 2025 Ryder Cup.

The 39-year-old US captain was widely expected to take on the duel role for next month's contest at Bethpage Black.

Bradley kept everyone guessing until the last minute but confirmed his 'tough' decision at the PGA of America's HQ in Texas on Wednesday.

The multiple PGA Tour winner said there was 'one stage' where he believed he would be on the team.

But ultimately, his decision was made before the Tour Championship at East Lake. "I'm glad it's over," Bradley said.

He has selected Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns as his captain's picks.

"I grew up wanting to play Ryder Cups and wanting to fight alongside these guys," Bradley said. "It broke my heart not to play, it really did.

"I was chosen to do a job and be a captain for this team and my ultimate goal was to be the best captain I could be. This is how I felt I could do this.

"If it got to the point where it felt the team was better with me on it I was going to do that. I know 100 per cent for certain this was the right choice.

"These six guys played so incredibly coming down the stretch here and made my job so much easier."

Bradley's picks join Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and LIV Golf recruit Bryson DeChambeau

Bradley's European counterpart, Luke Donald, will confirm his six wildcards on 1 September.

Half of Donald's team is known. Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Tyrrell Hatton and Rasmus Hojgaard have already qualified.

Bradley torn over biggest decision of his life

Keegan Bradley posted a top-10 finish at last week's finale on the PGA Tour, the Tour Championship at East Lake, and revealed he still had not made up his mind.

"I'm very well aware that no matter what decision I make, I'm going to be defined by it," he told reporters.

"If we win, it doesn't matter what I do. I'm fine with that, normally if you win you are the best captain and when you lose you are the worst. I have been a part of teams. This is the biggest decision of my life."

Good afternoon

And welcome to today's live page as US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley finally lets us know the answer to the question that he's been asked repeatedly over the last few months.

Will he pick himself for the matches at Bethpage Black?

Bradley stressed he would never name himself among the wildcards, stressing he'd only make his third Ryder Cup appearance through automatic qualification.

The 39-year-old finished 11th in the Ryder Cup standings, though, and the mood music has changed significantly.

Bradley is now expected to be among the six wildcards.

The announcement will be made at 11am ET (4pm BST).
