Scottish Open Golf 2022 LIVE: 1st Round Scores, Updates as Tringale goes low

Keep up to date with live updates from the first round of the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club featuring Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa.

The first day of the Genesis Scottish Open is underway at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick and many of the world's best players are out this morning, taking on the testing East Lothian links.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler struggled on Thursday morning, making four bogeys and a double-bogey on his way to a 3-over-par 73. He is a long way off the current runaway leader Cameron Tringale.

Tringale played his 1,058th round on the PGA Tour in East Lothian today and his 61 was his lowest ever round. He leads by three shots from fellow American Gary Woodland so far in pursuit of his first career win on tour.

14 of the top 15 players in the world have flocked to The Renaissance Club to complete their final preparations for The 150th Open Championship next week at St Andrews.

Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Will Zalatoris, Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood and Ian Poulter are now out on the course in North Berwick.

How are the LIV Golf rebels getting on?

Ian Poulter will tee off at 12.25pm BST alongside Branden Grace, who won the second LIV Golf Invitational event in Portland at Pumkin Ridge.

Justin Harding is at 3-under par after 14 holes, playing alongside Adrian Otaegui who is level par.

Poulter, in particular, says nobody has said anything "to my face" about playing the Scottish Open.

The Englishman insisted that he "had a good catch up" with Rory McIlroy earlier in the week at Adare Manor for the JP McManus Pro-Am.

Viktor Hovland's luggage troubles...

Perhaps Viktor Hovland's sluggish start can be put down to his luggage troubles?

The Norwegian has had a nightmare getting his clubs this week.

Read about that here.

Scheffler losing his cool..

Scottie Scheffler, the World No.1, is getting hot and bothered.

It's really not like him at all. He's got 18 feet or so for birdie at No.1 and his putt is a tad low.

He's already booted his putter this morning and is looking impatient.

Is he suffering from a bit of jet lag?

Been drinking too much Guinness?

He taps in for par and remains at 1-over.

Spieth drops a shot

Jordan Spieth drops back to 4-under after making bogey at the ninth hole.

Still a good start from the American...

Rahm, Hovland and Scheffler drop back

Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler have had nightmares at No. 18.

Scheffler taps in for a double bogey and mutters away to himself.

"I do not understand," chimes the American, who is 1-over par thru 9.

Hovland manages a bogey and is now 1-over.

Rahm also has to tap in for a double bogey and drops back to 1-under.

That's 17 shots between them on a par-4.

We have a new leader...and it's a familiar name

Jordan Spieth has the outright lead now at 5-under.

Eight holes, six birdies. Five of them in a row.

Just superb golf from the American...

Jon Rahm gets angry

Thanks Matt for the superb updates so far.

Ben taking over now.

And as you join me Jon Rahm is getting a little bit angry.

He got a break off his tee shot at 18.

The Spaniard missed the pot bunker down the left hand side of the fairway, but his approach from 203 yards cannons off the bank beyond the bunker.

It'll have to be a lay-up and now he's faced with a tricky up and down to save par.

Rahm thrills the crowd with a birdie!

Former World No.1 Jon Rahm hit a great tee shot on the par-3 17th hole and he rolled in a superb birdie putt!

It may be a long 195-yard hole, but the Spaniard nailed his 21-foot putt to make his fourth birdie of the day.

Rahm is now 3-under-par in what is becoming a very packed leaderboard!

Spieth chips in for ANOTHER BIRDIE!

Jordan Spieth is unstoppable right now! Having made three birdies in a row in his first nine holes, he has now made a fourth!

The American was just off the green in the light rough on hole 16 and he popped in the chip to tie the lead on 4-under-par!

His playing partner Cameron Smith also birdied this par-5 hole to reach 3-under for his round!

Three birdies in a row for Spieth!

Jordan Spieth is on hot form in the first round of the Genesis Scottish Open!

The three-time major champion rolled in a superb birdie putt on the 15th hole (his sixth hole) for his third consecutive birdie.

He has moved to 3-under-par and the 2017 Open champion is beginning to show his links expertise once again...

Scheffler bounces back with birdie!

After a bumpy start which saw Scottie Scheffler kick his putter across the 13th green, he has bounced back with a birdie on the par-4 15th hole!

The World No.1, who came second at the US Open last month, is now back to level-par as he looks to get in the red.

The 25-year-old was one of many top players to take part in the recent JP McManus Pro-Am at Adare Manor.
