Masters Par 3 Contest: Leaderboard, how to watch the action at Augusta National
Masters Par 3 Contest: Here is everything you need to know about the annual tradition.
It's time for one of the most charming and controversial traditions of Masters week.
The Masters Par 3 Contest will take place later this afternoon on the nine-hole course adjacent to Augusta National.
Competitors in the 91-man field and former champions bring along their family members and their children dress as caddies in the traditional white jumpsuits and green caps.
Played in a casual atmosphere, there's no cut and everyone plays all nine holes. The lowest score wins.
Not everyone will participate, as no player who has won the Masters Par 3 Contest has won The Masters in the same year.
The Masters Par 3 Contest is not for everyone, though, with some purists labelling the event as a distracting sideshow and a little too playful for the prestigious setting.
Reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy has already confirmed his participation.
On Tuesday, McIlroy told reporters in his pre-tournament press conference that he has been instructed by daughter Poppy to let her use her own putter this year.
Twelve months ago, Poppy, then aged four, stole the show by draining a mammoth putt with her father's.
From 25 feet, Poppy barely touched the ball and it crept all the way down the slope and dropped.
Poppy is likely to steal the show again this year but plenty of attention will be paid to Tommy Fleetwood's eight-year-old son, Frankie, who is aiming to finally carry the water and hit the 9th green.
After his ball found a watery grave last year, Frankie gave one of the cutest and memorable on-camera interviews. "I'm just trying my hardest," he said.
How he delivered the interview had the aforementioned McIlroy and Shane Lowry in stitches.
