Ten of the Best: Opening holes in Europe
Old Course St Andrews

Our friends at Your Golf Travel have compiled a list of their favourite ten opening golf holes in Europe. Some will look familiar, while others maybe not so much. Let us know if you agree or disagree with these choices in the forum below.

Old Course, St Andrews, Scotland – Par 4, 376 yards

Overlooked by the grey edifice that is home to the Royal & Ancient Golf Club, simply setting foot upon the first tee on the Old Course will send a shiver down the spine of any golf lover. After all, this is where the game was born.

Although it’s a relatively short par 4 with a generous opening target, don’t be lulled into a false sense of comfort.

The shallow green is guarded by the most famous water hazard in golf, the Swilcan Burn, so kick-starting your golfing pilgrimage with a four will require a courageous approach.
