Ian Woosnam has expressed his delight at seeing Royal Westmoreland crowned ‘Best International Golf Development’ at the recent International Residential Property Awards.

The former Masters champion and Ryder Cup captain has seen the Barbados beauty grow to its full potential having been one of the first people to buy on the Caribbean estate 17 years ago.

“This award is a great achievement and I am proud to be part of it,” said Woosnam, whose villa overlooks the 18th fairway of the Robert Trent Jones Jr-designed course, with westerly views of the coast.

“Many new facilities have been added and the golf course has improved, especially with regards to the bunkers and the cutting has got better.

“The design of the golf course is fantastic and has the best layout of all the courses onBarbados. The par-3s are particularly good and the course is generally a good test of golf.”

Woosnam, who is occasionally accompanied by Lee Westwood on the course during the winter months, will be teeing up in the Royal Westmoreland Senior Tournament on January 18.

The luxurious golf, beach and spa estate, set across 750 acres of lush, tropical landscape, also won six other awards at the glittering event, including ‘Best Multiple Development Caribbean’ and ‘Best Development Caribbean’.
