#3 - LONG IRONS

Dropping long irons such as a 3, 4 or 5-iron follows my exact points with the 3-wood previously.

A big reason golfers don’t use more hybrids is still that they think they will be made fun of, but believe me, no one will when you hit your lofted hybrid high and straight on to the middle of the green after they have just shanked a ball in to the trees!

Which lofts you should use will depend on several things but here’s a great guide to start with...

- If your 7-iron carries less than 150 yards then the 6-iron should be your longest iron.

- If your 7-iron carries 150 to 160 yards then you should stop at the 5-iron.

- If your 7-iron carries 160 to 170 yards then you could still have a 4-iron.

- Only use a 3-iron or more if you hit your 7-iron over 170.
