Stunning Blackmoor

Blackmoor, set in glorious golfing country on the Hampshire-Surrey border is the venue for Golfmagic’s latest golf day in which we invite members and their guests to take part.

Thanks to the industry of forum regular Ian Miller, we plan to play one of the finest, yet unheralded courses in Southern England, which has been a regular venue for Regional Qualifying for Open Championships and every April, hosts the Selbourne Salver for top amateurs.

So make a date to join us on Thursday, February 12 (first tee time 9am approx) at Blackmoor Golf Club, Firgrove Road, Whitehill, Bordon, Hants.

We’re looking for a group of 20-30 to join us. The cost is £28, which includes coffee and bacon roll on arrival, 18 holes of golf, two course lunch and prizes.

Originally one of the first designs of the celebrated Harry Colt in 1913, Blackmoor is regarded as one of his finest in a career that created Pine Valley, Moor Park, St George’s Hills, Stoke Poges and Swinley Forest.

It’s not long, but with its dark, heather fairway boundaries, elegant birch and fir trees and elevated greens and tees, it’s a stiff and fair challenge for any golfer. It’s a real heathland gem.

Henry Longhurst, once wrote of Blackmoor: "It’s what you may call a 16 hole course. Anyone can do a good score not counting two holes. But when you have got round the full eighteen holes, trying hard with a card and pencil and no putts given, whatever you may have done, at least let no man scoff until he has done better."

The club requires some confirmation of playing ability (a handicap certificate or at least a note from your local pro regarding your approximate standard).

It would help us if you give us a clear indication of your intentions and the names (and handicaps) of your guests, by Friday, February 6 on the forum, so Ian can confirm tee times.

The club also requires us to put down a substantial deposit, so as soon as you have confirmed your attendance we require you to send your cheques to Ian. His address is: Ian
Miller, NBC Ground Floor A, Nationwide House, Pipers Way,
Swindon, Wilts, SN38 1GN.

Hope you can support us - we look forward to meeting you.
