Bernd Wiesberger has taken to Twitter to wonder how it's logical that Germany will play in a stadium of 14,500 fans at Euro 2020, but that this week's BMW International Open in the same country can't have more than 400 spectators on the course.
He makes a valid point, don't you think? Especially given golf fans can spread out in the open air, rather than be enclosed into a stadium sat next to each other.
Not saying that there shouldn’t be 14500 Fans in the Stadium btw... But I really feel like a few thousand People, spread out over 18 holes, shouldn’t be causing too much headache…— Bernd Wiesberger (@BWiesberger) June 22, 2021
"How is it logical that Germany will play in a stadium of 14,500 fans tomorrow, yet the BMW INTL OPEN can't have more than 400 spectators watch at the course?" tweeted Wiesberger, who lines up as one of the favourites this week on the European Tour.
He added: "Not saying that there shouldn't be 14,500 fans in the stadium btw... but I really feel like a few thousand people, spread out over 18 holes, shouldn't be causing too much headache."
Check out some of the comments in response to Wiesberger's comments.
Very grateful that we play golf. We’ve been back playing for a year now. Just strange to drive past a stadium that will host 14500 people while we can’t welcome back fans in similar capacity of our sport. That’s all…— Bernd Wiesberger (@BWiesberger) June 22, 2021

There has been a lot of decisions made during this pandemic that don’t make sense. Golf has attracted many strange decisions. I’ve been grateful that since the 1st Lockdown to play through out. Let’s hope we can get spectators back on the courses soon.— John McMorland (@john_mcmorland) June 22, 2021

What do you make of just 400 spectators on a golf course, compared to 14,500 at a football stadium during Euro 2020? Share your thoughts on our social media channels.
