We take a look at some of our favourite wedges on the market in 2020.
Wedges are important weapons to add to your arsenal and if you can master your short game, you're going to shoot some very low scores out on the course.
The most important factor when considering a new wedge is feel. It doesn't matter how fancy they look or what technology they feature, if it doesn't feel right in your hands it's not the club for you, sort of like Harry Potter choosing his wand.

That being said, modern wedges are packed with incredible technology that we didn't think would be possible 10 years ago and you're spoilt for choice if you're looking at buying a new one.
So let's take a look at some of GolfMagic's favourite wedges on the market in 2020.
TaylorMade MG2

Similar to its predecessor and also found in the new P·7TW irons is the company’s proven CNC milling technology, which allows for the production of wedges to exacting specifications; each leading edge and sole grind is individually CNC milled for unparalleled accuracy and consistency from club to club and grind to grind. This process faithfully reproduces the master design of the surfaces most impactful on the performance of the wedge.
GOLFMAGIC VERDICT
When we tested the TaylorMade MG2 wedges, they proved to be one of the best we've ever used and it was no suprise given the success of the first Milled Grind wedge.
The new raw face design is a true highlight of this wedge, watching the rust develop over time and providing you with unrivalled spin control, plus its ability to stop the sun glaring off the face is another positive.
The different colourways available are fantastic, standing out amongst the crowd but without going over the top.
In terms of performance, the level of spin is incredible and most of all consistent, which allows you to play a variety of different shots with the MG2 wedges, making them extremely versatile.

Callaway Jaws Mack Daddy 5
DETAILS
The JAWS MD5 features Callaway's proprietary new JAWS groove designed to a 37º wall angle, an extreme difference vs. the 5º used in MD4. This elevates the groove-edge sharpness to a new level, for maximum grip and spin from all types of lies. JAWS grooves are particularly effective from 80 yards and in, producing a player preferred “one hop and stop” trajectory.
JAWS MD5 also incorporates Callaway's proven Groove-In-Groove Technology. These milled Micro-Positive grooves are placed in the flat parts of the face for added surface roughness and grip. Three raised micro-ridges are featured between each groove, adding grip to the ball’s cover to increase spin on a variety of shots. This combination of JAWS grooves plus micro-grooves provides 84 different contact points to promote more spin.
GOLFMAGIC VERDICT
The spin rate of the new JAWS MD5 is even better than its previous model and we absolutely loved the trajectory that the new wedges offer with full shots. You could really dial shots at the flag knowing that the ball was going to stop quickly and more importantly, consistently.
The design of the JAWS MD5 is very clean and modern, making it very appealing with the ball at address. The offset is also very minimal which increases your confidence around the greens.
Although GolfMagic loves the design, the chrome finish does cause some glare when the sun is shining, so if that's something that puts you off then you may want to lean towards a different colour finish.

Cobra King MIM

This fully 17-4 stainless steel metal injection moulded manufacturing process (MIM) creates precise shaping and thickness tolerances, without the need for any post process hand polishing. This helps to deliver enhanced performance and feel in a speciality wedge.
The wedge has been manufactured with precise CNC milling usually found in more expensive forged players irons, which changes the way you play the game. This precise groove and perfectly flat face manufacturing process provide greater spin and trajectory control, to give you a game improvement iron with a Tour-level performance.
GOLFMAGIC VERDICT
The Cobra King MIM wedge is in our opinion one of the best looking wedges money can buy, but it doesn't stop there.
In terms of performance, the MIM wedge produces a very high ball flight with top-of-the-range spin control.
At contact, the MIM wedge has a very soft feel which fills you with the confidence to play a range of different shots around the green.

Ping Glide 3.0
DETAILS
In the Glide 3.0 wedges, PING’s engineers put a premium on the feel and forgiveness by leveraging the multi-material construction that combines a 431 stainless steel head with a larger and softer elastomer Custom Tuning Port (CTP) insert.
Similar to the popular i210 irons, the additional volume of the CTP allows for a larger insert covering more of the back of the face, resulting in activation of the elastomer at impact to produce a soft yet solid feel. The new, patented cavity design and larger CTP expand the perimeter weighting to increase the MOI and position the centre of gravity higher to yield lower-launching, higher-spinning trajectories for more control.
GOLFMAGIC VERDICT
The PING Glide 3.0 wedges are phenomenal and ticks off every box in the wedge checklist. To put it simply, they look incredible and they perform even better.
The performance levels of the Glide 3.0 wedges were second to none. You get a slightly lower ball flight, so if it's just height you're looking for in a wedge then these might not be for you, but the difference isn't that noticeable.
Extremely high spinning which makes control around the greens a lot more comfortable. Playing full shots, you get a really quick stop, which makes distance control a lot easier. Around the greens you can play a lot of different types of shots due to the amount of spin they produce.
With four different sole designs available, you can tailor the Glide 3.0 wedges to suit your game, something that not all brands can offer without custom fitting.

Mizuno T20
DETAILS

Each wedge is constructed from 1025E Mild Carbon steel and expertly Grain Flow Forged. A 50-year-old process which perfectly suits wedges like no other.
The wedge is spin weighted, weighting placed high into the design within a tapered blade. This improves spin and vertical stability from miss-hit shots. After the forging process, every wedge is mechanically milled to the tightest possible degree of tolerance for a perfectly flat face, which improves spin constancy.
T20 wedges feature CNC milled grooves which are wider and shallower in the higher lofts for partial shots around the green, and deeper and narrower in the lower lofted wedges for more control on full shots. For extra control, the wedges have Hydroflow micro-grooves which are vertically etched onto the face to disperse water more effectively for greater control in damp or wet conditions.

Easily one of the best looking wedges on the market and in terms of performance, you won't be let down by the Mizuno T20.
Extremely forgiving and the feel is amazing, as you'd expect from any Mizuno club.

Cleveland RTX-4

Titleist Vokey SM8
DETAILS
