Seed Golf has been turning heads since its founding in 2016, and its latest golf ball offering is no exception.
Seed Golf has a clear mission. To make golf more affordable.
Since its founding, CEO Dean Klatt has had a clear plan to offer premium-level golf balls at a more affordable price.
The brand's golf balls float around £30 at their maximum, with other options coming in as cheap as £15 per dozen. Seed also offers subscription packages and multi-discount deals to ensure customers are happy from A to B.
Their latest offering in 2024 is the Gen-2 SD-X1 (The Pro X1).
This is Seed's high compression, low spin golf ball, designed for faster swing speed players.
Fortunately, I fit right into that bracket.
This ball comes in at £30 for a dozen, which is decidedly cheaper than other best golf balls of 2024.
The Titleist Pro V1, for instance, is £20 more expensive per dozen.
Let’s find out why.
In the creation of the SD-X1 golf ball, the limits were pushed too far, and the ball was actually too fast and exceeded the R&A limits.
With a faster core for more ball speed, and thinner core for more feel, I put this up on the Foresight GC3 to really see if this ball is fast.
Short answer, it’s quick.
We averaged 183mph ball speed with driver on the GC3
The Seed SD-X1 definitely keeps up with other premium golf balls for the speed department. Indoor and outdoor testing showed that this golf ball is certainly pushing ball speed to the max.
I was pleasantly surprised by the durability of the SD-X1 during testing. A lot of golfers may think that the first part of a golf ball that suffers with a cheaper product will be durability, but with an 123mph swing speed, the cover held very well.
This ball, as titled, is a high compression product.
As a byproduct of that, it is pretty firm.
Someone who prefers a softer ball should look towards the different models available from Seed, such as the SD-01.
In the future, I’d like the SD-X1 Gen 2 to look aesthetically different.
Each generation should look different in some way shape or form so consumers can choose the ball that has improved year on year. It’s hard to see that with the visual from the X1, so make sure you buy the right product!
Who should game this golf ball?
Any golfer with a fast swing speed who prefers a practical, lower priced firm ball that offers a lot of speed will fit right in to the SD-X1 The Pro X1.
Is it better than the Titleist Pro V1? We don’t think so.
Is it £20 per dozen worse than the Pro V1? Absolutely not. I struggle to thin of a better value for money ball in 2024 than the offerings that Seed have.
