Love it or loathe it, the  golf hoodie, stylish and controversial as it is in equal measure, is here to stay. The thought of wearing a hoodie on the golf course almost seemed criminal only five years ago, but 2025 has seen the garment well and truly hit the golf wear mainstream, with players now regularly donning at some of the world's most prestigious tournemants.

What's more, the golf hoodie has the official endorsement of the world's best player, with Scottie Scheffler now routinely seen in them during major championship play.

And why shouldn't it? With sneaker-style golf shoes now well and truly the norm and golf club dress codes relaxing worldwide, it feels like a natural step forward for golf fashion to embrace a garment that has so long stood for easy comfort, versatility, and lightweight protection from changeable weather.

Thankfully, most big golf apparel brands have caught up, with most of the sportswear giants and a handful of smaller forward thinking labels releasing their own take on the golf hoodie in recent years.

And as the weather turns cool and the skies grey over once more, we thought the onset of Autumn golf represented the perfect time to pull together a list of our favourite course-ready hoodies to get in your rotation. Of course, it only makes sense to start with the most iconic golf hoodie of all.

Adidas COLD.RDY Full-Zip Hoodie

Adidas curiously doesn't offer a golf-specific hoodie at the time of writing, but as you can imagine, the brand's extensive range of sportswear offers are plenty of options to choose from. The COLD.RDY fabric adds layers of extra insulation for cooler climates, with additional AEROREADY Ventilation to stop things getting too sweaty when the sun comes back out.

Designed mostly for the rigours of strength training and functional fitness, its thinner cut and stretchy materials also ensure plenty of comfort and mobility throughout the swing as well.

Things to consider when buying a golf hoodie

Material

Different materials offer different characteristics, so it's key to consider what your hoodie is made of when you make a purchase.

Most modern garments are made primarily from polyester, but cotton and wool do still have their place in the market. Polyester is our favoured material due to its stretch, moisture-wicking properties, and breathability. The synthetic material is also straightforward to care for and will hold its shape and colour incredibly well.

Cotton and wool both deliver perhaps a more traditional feel and look, but don't provide the same level of versatility and functionality as polyester, elastane or a variety of other modern synthetics. Typically also more expensive, the natural materials also tend to lose their shape and colour more quickly.

Functionality

The hoodie category is quite a broad one, and different styles and designs will favour certain conditions and environments, so the functionality of the garment is vital to consider.

If you regularly play in a cooler climate where wind and rain play a big factor, selecting a hoodie that's water-resistant and well-insulated should be your main priority.

Alternatively, some hoodies are much more breathable and lightweight, making them an ideal choice for golfers looking for something nice and easy to stash in their bag in case the temperature starts to dip slightly mid-round.

Price

Price is key to consider when buying almost everything, and golfing hoodies are not exempt. Ranging quite dramatically from around £40 to close to £130, finding the price point that suits your budget is essential.

While the more expensive mid-layers on this list certainly deliver the quality and comfort you would expect from the price tag, you can still find excellent value and performance from every item on this list.

If you're someone who only likes to play once or twice a year, then perhaps a £200 quarter zip might not be the wisest money you've ever spent, but if you're a serious golfer who demands the absolute best in style and performance from their clothing, then the more expensive items in this guide are undoubtedly well worth your consideration.
