Relief cannot be taken as casual water when water appears when pressing a footmark down.

Water must come to the surface as a result of normal pressure from the player’s feet when taking a stance.

But it's not just water where a good foot stomp comes into play - we've noticed it on Tour in the sand in recent months.

Both Branden Grace and Charley Hoffman were recently spotted, at two separate tournaments, shuffling and pressing their feet into the base of a bunker - when they both had plugged lies!

WATCH: IS BRANDEN GRACE'S DROP AT WENTWORTH THE MOST FORTITIOUS DROP EVER?

In aggressively building a stance, they both pushed so far into the sand that they found the lining material under the bunker. As a result, both players received a free drop in the sand by a rules official.

It will be interesting to see if this continues on Tour, when players get plugged lie, especially if the 'new way' of maintaining bunkers is to have a lining in the bunker to better manage drainage etc.

Have you spotted any other ‘cheating’ situations? Why not share them with us. But no names of ‘guilty’ parties, please – none of us wants to have to justify ourselves in court!
