There might be some serious doubt as to whether the 2020 Ryder Cup will even take place at Whistling Straits from September 25 to 27 given the current coronavirus pandemic, but the race to make both Europe and United States is well underway.

Let's take a closer look at those players currently earning a spot in their respective sides, starting with Europe, who are bidding to win the Ryder Cup for an eighth time in the last 10 matches...

TEAM EUROPE

Padraig Harrington's 2020 European Ryder Cup side will be comprised of four players through a European Points List, five players through a World Points List, and then three captain's picks nearer the time of the event.

Right now, Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Victor Perez would qualify for the team through the EPL, with Tyrrell Hatton,  Danny Willett, Matt Fitzpatrick, Lee Westwood and Bernd Wiesberger coming through the WPL.

As you can see, there are no current automatic spots for former European Ryder Cup heroes in Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Ian Poulter, Paul Casey and Francesco Molinari to name just five big names.

Current team in full as it stands:

Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Victor Perez, Tyrrell Hatton, Danny Willett, Matt Fitzpatrick, Lee Westwood, Bernd Wiesberger (plus three picks).
