Are you allowed to use a driver with a hole in the clubhead?
You are allowed to have holes in the head of your putter but are you allowed one in the head of your driver?
Golf clubs have gone through an intriguing evolution of shapes, sizes and designs over the years. Every golfer and every company is looking for an edge over the competition.
Especially with the short sticks, we have seen a variety of club heads incorporated into the design. From mallet putters to two-ball heads and pick-me-up designs to short and thin heads, there is hardly an avenue that hasn't been explored when it comes to putters.
You are allowed almost anything, including a design that has a hole (or holes) in the head or significant gaps.
But we saw an interesting question posed by golfrules_questions on social media which asked: Are you allowed to use a driver with a hole in the clubhead?

It is an interesting query, not one that is realistic in most situations on the golf course, but it essentially compares the approved designs for putters and drivers.
As you can see in the image above, the driver has a peculiar and eccentric design and it is a design that is rarely found at any golf club in the world.
This is because it is illegal. You are not allowed to use a driver with this type of design. It is classed as a non-conforming club and it can't be used in your golf bag.

Putters are the only clubs that are allowed to use holes in the clubhead as part of the design. Woods, drivers and irons are forbidden from using this style, no matter how unique it is.
If you ever find a club like this or are given a club like this from a family member or a friend, by all means, use it on the driving range but you may not use it on the golf course.
