Francesco Molinari believes 2022 Ryder Cup will top career list

Francesco Molinari has achieved a lot in his career, including lifting the Claret Jug at the Open Championship, a major that so many golfers dream of winning, but Molinari believes representing Europe in the 2022 Ryder Cup on home soil in Italy would be the summit of his career.

At the 2018 Ryder Cup in France, Molinari was one of the crucial players on Team Europe, winning all five of his matches - the first European player in Ryder Cup history to do so - and was one half of the clinical pairing known as 'Moliwood' with his good friend Tommy Fleetwood.

Molinari is currently playing in his home country of Italy in the Italian Open, part of the Rolex Series, with another incredibly strong European Tour field that includes Paul Casey, Justin Rose and Open Champion Shane Lowry.

Next year's Ryder Cup takes place on American Soil at Whistling Straits, but the 2022 Ryder Cup will be even more special for Molinari, when it heads to Marco Simone GC in Rome.

"I can’t say I’m nervous about it, but it’s going to be absolutely mental, The Ryder Cup here," he said.

"Obviously the passion of the crowds in Italy is always special, but I think in Rome is even more, and yeah, The Ryder Cup itself is something unique.

"So I can’t wait.

“Hopefully I’ll be on the playing team. It would be probably, you know, the summit of my career, whatever I’ve done and whatever I do from now on, I think to play a Ryder Cup in your home country, you can’t really beat that.”
