Monty questions McIlroy's decision to have friend as caddie

Colin Montgomerie has questioned Rory McIlroy’s decision to pick a friend as caddie.

The Scot is unsure whether Harry Diamond, a long-term friend of the Northern Irishman, has the authority to question his player's decisions.

“The caddie is very important to get the player over the line, it's a team – you and him,” he told the Daily Mail.

“It's interesting with McIlroy. The caddie is a friend, Harry Diamond. He sounds like a Bond villain! But is he strong enough to take authority?

“Yes, Rory is in charge but he might need something from his caddie. Is Harry strong enough to do that? Does he have the authority like Jordan Spieth's caddie, for instance? Possibly not.”
