Silverknowes Golf Club has been forced into shutting its doors after one golfer decided to shun quarantine rules under current Scottish Government guidelines.

The golfer in question reportedly visited the club on Saturday without self-isolating following a recent trip to Spain.

As a result of his actions, the Scottish golf club has had no other alternative but to close down in the short term in order to undergo a COVID-19 deep clean of its facility.

The club, which is located on the southern side of the Firth of Forth between Cramond and Granton, is due to be closed until Thursday.

The golfer has reportedly not shown any signs of having coronavirus, but the club is taking precaution in an effort to keep the rest of their members and guests safe.

"We found out this morning that a member entered the clubhouse on Saturday morning for a very brief period of time, after having returned from Spain," read a post on the club's Facebook page.

"He did not self-isolate and we have been left with no other option but to close the club.

"Myself and the staff have sanitised all of the clubhouse today but, as a precautionary measure, we are closing the club for 72 hours.

"If you were in the clubhouse on Saturday and show signs of COVID, please contact us as soon as possible so we may inform the track and trace team.

"The club will be open for business on Thursday unless there are any repercussions from this."
