Charlie Woods delivers Tiger-esque moment with stunning 40-foot putt to seal victory

The 17-year-old drained a spectacular birdie on the 18th to win by one shot and fire Benjamin High School to team glory, as fresh attention turns to his father's potential golf comeback.

We’ve seen Tiger Woods save his best for the 18th green countless times throughout his legendary career. Now, his 17-year-old son Charlie is following in his footsteps after sinking a sensational 40-foot birdie putt to clinch victory in dramatic fashion.

Charlie produced a spectacular finish at Champions Club at Summerfield in Stuart, Florida, carding a 2-under 69 to win the individual title at the Class 1A-District 14 Championship by a single shot.

Charlie's heroics also helped deliver an even bigger prize for Benjamin High School.

The Buccaneers claimed the team championship with a combined score of 290, finishing 15 shots clear of runners-up Oxbridge Academy as they continued their push towards another Florida boys' golf state title.

It was a commanding display in testing conditions, with strong winds, rain and long holes making life difficult for the field.

Benjamin coach Toby Harbeck was delighted with his leading players, with Charlie and team-mate Brooks Colton delivering the two lowest scores for the school.

"Charlie made a 40-foot putt on the last hole to win the individual title. Charlie shot a 69 and Brooks shot a 70. That's what you want out of your No. 1 and No. 2," Harbeck told the Palm Beach Post.

Colton finished one shot behind Woods after carding a 1-under 70, which included an eagle at the par-5 4th.

But Charlie had the final word.

Birdies at the fourth, 10th, 13th and 18th helped him secure individual honours, with that spectacular last-hole effort proving the difference.

Charlie continues to make his mark

Being the son of a 15-time major champion inevitably brings scrutiny, but Charlie is increasingly giving golf fans reasons to focus on his own performances.

The teenager has enjoyed an impressive autumn with Benjamin, helping the Buccaneers win the Palm League Championship in September before adding district honours to their achievements.

He carded an even-par 71 at Biltmore Golf Course in Miami during the league championship, finishing eighth individually as Benjamin rallied on the back nine to secure the team title.

Charlie is scheduled to join Florida State University next autumn, where he will continue his development in collegiate golf.

He has also signed his first name, image and likeness deal with TaylorMade, which supplies his driver, fairway woods, irons, wedges and golf balls.

With college golf approaching, his latest victory offers another encouraging indication of his progress under competitive pressure.

Woods receives welcome boost

Charlie's latest triumph comes as attention also turns towards his father's personal life and hopes of returning to competitive golf.

Tiger's girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, recently announced that she is cancer-free after revealing her breast cancer diagnosis in May.

Vanessa, 48, underwent surgery and worked with her medical team on treatment before sharing the welcome news that her latest test results had come back clear.

Tiger was subsequently pictured alongside Vanessa in a video shared by her daughter, Kai Trump, prompting a wave of positive reactions from golf fans.

The announcement provides a welcome moment of relief for the couple after a difficult period, with supporters continuing to hope that the golfing great can make progress towards a return to the course.

Could Tiger return to golf soon?

The 50-year-old has not competed since missing the cut at The Open Championship in July 2024.

Back surgery last October and a car crash in Florida in March 2026 have complicated his comeback plans, leaving the timing of any return uncertain.

TGL is among the potential opportunities on the horizon, with its third season scheduled to begin on December 27.

Woods' Jupiter Links team is due to face Los Angeles Golf Club in the opening match, although his participation has not been definitively confirmed.

Fans are also waiting to discover whether he will play alongside Charlie at December's PNC Championship or even feature at the 20-man Hero World Challenge.

Looking further ahead, USGA chief championships officer John Bodenhamer has said he expects Woods to compete at the 2028 US Senior Open.

A return to the PGA Tour or PGA Tour Champions in 2027 remains a possibility rather than a confirmed plan.

For now, Charlie is the Woods making headlines on the course, and with a stunning 40-foot putt on the final green, he has delivered a finish that will have made his famous father very proud once more.
