Brooks Koepka gets US Ryder Cup players to wear LIV Golf Smash GC shirts

Brooks Koepka to snap up Ryder Cup stars (?!): "I make money moves."

Brooks Koepka gets US Ryder Cup players to wear LIV Golf Smash GC shirts

Brooks Koepka took to Twitter at the US Ryder Cup team party last night to reveal he had got four other members of Zach Johnson's team to wear LIV Golf Smash GC T-shirts.

Koepka tweeted a photo of him with fellow US Ryder Cup players Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Sam Burns and Xander Schauffele all wearing Smash GC shirts.

Smash GC is of course the team that Koepka captains on the Saudi-bankrolled LIV Golf League.

The picture was taken outside of a sign reading 'Captain's Office'.

While clearly all in jest, spare a thought for PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan when he sees the photograph!

The PGA Tour is on the verge of a shock merger with LIV Golf's bankrollers, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).

But LIV Golf has nothing to do with this partnership, at least in the short term.

Player transfers are still permitted on LIV Golf, so it will be interesting to see if they manage to recruit any more big-name PGA Tour stars.

Koepka jokingly tweeted:

"I make money moves."

Koepka was the only LIV Golf player competing at the 2023 Ryder Cup.

There had been calls from a large number of golf fans for the likes of both Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson to have been included in Zach Johnson's team in Rome.

The 2023 LIV Golf season has just two more events left in Saudi Arabia and its team season finale in Miami.

They then have their off-season and return in 2024.

Here's a sneak peek at the schedule

Of all five players in Koepka's photo, Homa performed the best taking 3.5 points from a possible five at the 2023 Ryder Cup.

Homa was the leading points scorer for the US Ryder Cup team.

Koepka earned 1.5 points from a possible three.

Burns took one point from a possible three, while Schauffele took one from a possible four.

Fowler earned zero points from two matches, with reports suggesting he was not in the best of health during the week.

He was also blasted by a number of American golf fans for conceding a three-foot putt to Tommy Fleetwood for birdie on the 16th green, which was enough to see Europe win the Ryder Cup.

Although Team USA appeared to be enjoying a few cold ones last night, they did lose the 2023 Ryder Cup heavily by a 16.5-11.5 scoreline at the hands of Luke Donald's Team Europe at Marco Simone in Rome.
