Tiger Woods said he put his golf clubs in a closet for 10 days after the Masters and did not swing them once.

Woods makes his first start since his tie for 32nd at the Masters at the Wells Fargo Championship this week, where reports claim the 14-time major champion shot a 6-under 65 in the Pro-Am.

The former world number one, now ranked 93rd, said: “I got away from the game, didn’t touch a club, didn’t make a golf swing.’’

While away from the game, Woods reflected and analysed where things didn't quite go right. He landed on the irons.

“I didn’t hit my irons very good,’’ said Woods, who has this week revealed his new TW Phase 1 irons with TaylorMade.

This week marks Woods’ first start at Quail Hollow since missing the cut in 2012.

Woods tees it up alongside Masters champion Patrick Reed and US Open winner Brooks Koepka.

He won the Wells Fargo in 2007 and has three other top-11 finishes, but Quail Hollow also is the only course where he’s missed the cut twice in his professional career (he also missed in 2010). There have been many changes to the course, which hosted the US PGA Championship in August.

“The golf course is much harder than it used to be,’’ said Woods. “It’s longer, more difficult.’’
