This isn't to say, however, there isn't a healthy community of golf lovers in the nation's capital. Almost daily we see people merrily transporting their clubs to and from different places around the city, whether they're frequenting one of the many courses on the city's outskirts, or sampling one of the growing number of indoor spaces providing a place for passionate golfers and beginners alike to grow their love of the game.

As such, with a huge range of options now available to golfers in just about every area of London, the GolfMagic team saw fit to do a proper deep dive into our favourite places around the city and the surrounding areas to get some quality swing time in.

The best places to practice golf in London and the South East

Greenwich Peninsula Golf Range

One of the city's largest full-facility driving ranges, the real draw of Greenwich Peninsula is its view, flanked on one side by the towering skyscrapers of Canary Wharf and the iconic O2 area on the other. A 3,000 sq ft American Golf store resides in the centre to cater to any post-session equipment needs, while the N1 Academy on hand has eight full-time PGA coaches on-hand providing lessons and clinics.

A fully-stocked American Golf store once again resides on the premises, with all the biggest brands at your fingertips and free custom fitting available with their their friendly PGA professionals on site.

A relaxing new space located within the historic confines of Wandsworth's Royal Victoria Patriotic Building, SGC was built with the mission of creating a true community of golfers residing in the local area, providing an elevated, dedicated space for practice, play and friendly competition among its members.

It's by no means the flashiest entry on this list, but Chingford Golf Range nonetheless remains an affordable and accessible option for East Londoners looking for a clean, quiet place to hit some balls. A stones throw from Chingford Overground Station, it's easily accessible by train, bus and via a short walk over the A110 bridge from Edmonton.

Founded by resident PGA Pro Gordon Goldie over 50 years ago, Chingford is impressively fitted out for its small size. It has 20 all-weather bays, a trackman swing studio and a ZEN indoor putting green, while Goldie and his team of resident teachers are on hand to provide tuition and guidance for golfers of every level.

Silvermere Golf Club 

Location: Redhill Road, Cobham, Surrey

Just over an hour's train ride from Waterloo, Silvermere GC has firmly established itself as one of the leading and most innovative practice facilities on the London outskirts with its 48 bays, two-tiered driving range. We have been visiting this Surrey venue for years, and if truth be told it gets better every year. 

This roof-terraced driving range features clever Toptracer technology, which is available in all 48 bays giving you accurate yardages on every shot, shot trajectory and also lets you get competitive with games.

There are a number of different virtual games to get stuck into including nearest the pin, longest drive and rounds of golf at famous courses and more. Meanwhile, the club's acclaimed 18-hole course will provide those with a stern test to put their practice into proper play.

Silvermere boasts one of Europe's most comprehensive golf shops, with a host of equipment and apparel brand as well as club fitting services readily available.
