Police were called to Stapleford Abbots Golf Club in Essex last week after 200 partying travellers trashed the venue.

The party at the swanky golf club, which features a 17th century oak beamed clubhouse, turned into absolute chaos when four times the amount of people initially booked for the party showed up.

Inspector Rob Brettell tweeted images from the scene, revealing flooded toilets and debris sprawled over a function room.

The pictures show chairs had been knocked over and rubbish was thrown over the floor and in sinks.

A police helicopter was even sent in as officers worked to disperse the rowdy revellers at around 10pm on Tuesday evening.

Insp Brettel said that as a free bar allowance ran out bar staff began to feel intimidated and a manager removed them from the situation while the partygoers helped themselves to drinks. There were also a number of damages and thefts.

Essex Police said: “We received calls about criminal damage and theft from the venue following a disagreement between travellers and staff at a party.

“Officers attended, dispersed the group and monitored the situation. Enquiries are ongoing.”

The spokesman said the course and bar are open as staff work to clear up the function room.
